Nicandra physaloides - Shoo-fly plant - reputed to deter whitefly.
Pretty seedpods like Chinese lanterns. Grows wild on my plot.

Thank-you. We do not grow many annuals so had no idea, not having seen one for myself.

Definitely deters insects - but poisonous to people & animals as well. It is what the catalogues call "an easy annual" which I think is code for "you'll only ever need to buy one packet because they'll grow themselves all over the garden for years if you let them set seed." The lantern shaped seedheads that follow the flowers are worth waiting for, though.

Palustris,

QuoteWe do not grow many annuals so had no idea, not having seen one for myself.

Ceratonia's right - you'll never need to buy another one!

And yes, all parts of the plant are poisonous.

Happy to pass on seeds if anyone wants to PM me.

(Those last two sentences are not connected)

;D
