Just wondering, how green is a 'Green' tomato?
I have some very pale tomatoes (rescued as blight crept up the stem). Can I use these or should I wait?
Remember that they are riper inside.
I like them just like this.
Are there any recipes for green tomatoes that you can put in the freezer? I made chutney last year and I've still got a shelf-full in the shed.
There was a film called 'Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café'.
I don't recall any recipes from it though. ;D
I found a couple of recipe sites for fried green tomatoes.

Lauren :)
P.S the movies in the USA was only called Fried Green Tomatoes.
I always wonder why sometimes the USA and UK movies have different names ???
I can't believe that any recipe would work for freezing.
I've got the book by Fannie Flagg - it's brilliant, much better than the film, and that was good!
There are a couple of recipes at the back - I've tried them, they are delicious, but not for the health-conscious!
Fried Green Tomatoes with milk gravy
Heat 3 tablespoons of bacon fat in a heavy frying pan. Dip thickly sliced green tomatoes into beaten egg, then into dried breadcrumbs (or cornmeal - ground finely). Fry tomatoes slowly in the fat, then drain. Thicken the fat that is left with a little flour and blend, then stir in some warm milk and cook until thickened. Season with Salt and pepper. Pour over tomatoes and serve very hot! :P
Thanks chaps. Photo especially helpful, Tim. :)
Frying tonight!
Oh thank you, Lauren - got me out of my Oatmel rut.
It's this way from now on!!
Brilliant links and recipies. Your green tomatoes look scrumptious Tim - so will try these for supper tomorrow as I have lots of toms that haven't ripened.
Another good site for recipies is www.fooddownunder.com. I like it because all the recipies I have from it so far are easy to do.
Interesting site.
