Pre-allotment days, I didn't think I could make compost - did all the right things, half rotted sludge came out of the daleks. Now my allotment 4-pallets cabletied-together-bin (I'm not allowed sharp implements or hammers!) is producing the true black gold - hoorah. Now will be building 4 pallet heap in back garden - and will have two redundant daleks. I am looking for creative suggestions on their re-use - some form of activity thingy for 4 year old perhaps (small garden mind) or any other ideas please!

stick on a sink plunger and have a real dalek? ;)
yet again - there's something which you pay a lot of money for which doesn't do the job. The free, homemade alternative is much much better. I was thinking of getting a dalek, but mum-in-law said that hers didn't do the job well. Instead she dug a hole in the ground and slung everything in there - worked beautifully. My free palleted-heaps do the job perfectly.
Anyway. Enough of the anti-consumerism rant... what to do with them? Use them for forcing rhubarb. Or for story compost that has been composted in. Or turn into a strawberry planter by making holes in the side. Or do as Ross says and use the daleks to guard your plot.
i had been using a black dustbin for composting. afterwards i cut it into three rings. These i sunk into the ground and planted invasive herbs such as mint and horseradish to stop the roots spreading outwards.
