When is the best time to take cuttings for herbs? Would it be ok to do them now?
Should I leave them outside, in my mini-greenhouse or indoors?
I'm taking cuttings from sage, rosemary and thyme.
Hi Aqui, don't know if there is a right or wrong time but when I took cuttings I did it about mid June. I simply tore off a bit from the mother plant making sure I had a woody stem and put them in pots of well draining soil and kept them moist. I kept them outside and by winter they were hardy enough to stay outside (I'm talking about rosemary and sage, can't speak for thyme)
I think I did mine a bit later on -maybe a month or 2. Thyme is dead easy -even from the tiniest cutting, Sage I always have problems with, I keep it through the winter and it dies in the spring, basically I don't keep it moist enough.

I've just had some success with sage (for the first time)
I took the cuttings 3 weeks ago and put half in come GP compost with added vermiculite and others in plain sand (3.5" pot in shaded propogator)
Lavender did very well with the same treatment

Thanks for the tip Phil - I will give that a try.
