Title: Spelling matters
Post by: Grandma on October 12, 2007, 17:14:04
Just had to share this!

Had a visit from a bathroom designer today. She gave me her brochure....................

(http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/406/brochureht8.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

.............I'm wondering if they set it off when they get in trouble then wait for someone - (a man???) - to come and rescue them.  ::) ::) ::)

RNLI here they come?
The spelling mistake which always conjures up a lovely picture for us is when folks on Gardening sites talk about 'sewing' seeds. Right, needles at the ready?

I have brochures in six different languages and it's a nightmare checking, double checking, triple checking.  Typos are so easy to do, and easily missed.  I'm always grateful for comments/corrections.  I suspect the lady designers either didn't check well enough, or they could blame the proof readers!!!

How about this for an inappropriate apostrophe:

Not far from me is a road called Dogpool Lane. Nearby is a junior school. Over the years I've seen a succession of little kiddies scrub out the 'l' in the first word - followed by a succession of council workers painting it back in. And how they've laughed :P

Dont worry hun, Ive got an american spellcheck,  even those last few words came up with 4 mistakes! I know Im rubbish at grammer and typing together. But in all honesty I am lazy too, you may notice that in some of my posts.....I dont delete, I just give a very lengthy excuse :P

But dont you think the english language is odd?

eg; Tear as in rip, or tear as in cry. Flare and flair.

Im not that worried about spelling mistakes in posts as long as I can understand the gist, my OH cant spell for toffee, but he is rather dishy and intelligent just coz he dont spel rite dont make im a dunce ;D ;)

I might be interested in a cottage in Cottagers.

Does Butthole Lane have restricted acces or width/height limits.
Is it  a one way road? A single lane track ? Or even no entry ?

There's a place in southern Sweeden called BÃ¥stad. Anyone know if its been twinned with anywhere?

At the moment I'm at Whits End.
