I've just had a quick search but can't really find the answer to my question, which is this:
I have four or five clumps of rhubarb, planted about a year ago, that have done really well and have loads of stems and leaves. I had just taken on my plot so I bunged them in the nearest bit of clear ground and now I want to move them to a proper rhubarb patch.
do I wait for the leaves to die back by themselves, or should I cut them back, or can I move them as they are leaves and all?
and should I wait until it's much colder anyway before moving them? :-\
:)prepare the ground by digging and give it a good manuring digging this in as well then when the leaves die down lift the rhubarb divide it if it is large then replant hope this is of some help ;)
I found a clump of rhubarb at the back of our plot that was hidden by brambles and we were strimming the area, if I didn't lift it it would have been killed so I lifted it and planted it and it's growing well, that was about 3 weeks ago.

Personally, I'd leave it until the leaves have died back, or are dying and can be removed easily. About half of ours has died back already, so it'll only be a few weeks at the most.
Wait a little until the rhubarb goes dormant, then lift and plant into new spot
resurrecting this one! I planted some rhubarb last summer in the front garden (at the time there was nowhere else to put it). In between the snow, severe frosts and rain we have managed to prepare a space for it in the back garden. I have been waiting for the conditions to be suitable for moving it, knowing that it should be dormant, when I've just noticed today that the crown seems to be waking up! Have I missed the boat? Would it be OK to still move it (when the weather lets us!)
I intend to move one of mine as soon as the ground dries up, I originally planted in late Feb and they were fine
Gwynnethmary I'd leave it where it is for now and move it in the autumn.

I have moved rhubarb at this time of year and not had a problem, you just need to give it a good feed, keep moist over the summer and not pick any so that the plant has a good chance of settling in with no stress. I have some more on order from Marshalls and if they are still delivering then it should be ok.
