Afternoon All
Has anyone ever tried to grow garlic in growbags? Is it possible?
Due to White rot, I am looking for a new method for growing my garlic this year.
Any responses/experiences would be gratefully received.
Ta very much
Steve
don't know what depth you need, someone on this forum cuts the bag in half and stands it up, that 'd do it ;D
Me too!
the Garlic farm says you can grow them in pots:
4 cloves to a 6" pot (15cm)
6 " " 8" pot (20 cm)
8 " " 10" pot (25.4cm)
warns not to bring indoors or leave in GH because cold is need to "vernalise the clove" and make it split into segments.
Feed from Feb to April
Love that bed Tim. What spacing are you using?
It says you can here

So a half grow bag would work.
4" Barnie. Less for the 'green garlic'.
Thanks Tim. I thought I put them too far apart last year ;D
I assume that you have been rotating growing your garlic each year between 3 or 4 beds. If they are all contaminated, you could try elephant garlic as it seems to succeed where normal garlic fails. Also do not plant the garlic too deep; just covering is deep enough. If the beds are normally wet, try planting the garlic on top of small ridges.
I find the beds difficult to keep moist.
By the way, it was pointed out to me that I should have put a membrane over the ground before filling the bed.
Thanks all for your responses.
I have only had my plot for 2 seasons, but white rot has hit both years, and so I have to assume that it is all over the plot, hence the reason to use an isolated system.
I will try full grobags lying horizontal, half growbags, and pots and see how I get on.
Will try to remember to report back.
Thanks again!!

That link says 20cm apart :o I plant mine 10cm (same distance as Tim's 4") apart and (until this year) they did all right.
What variety gave the best results?
