Since it's a thing like a housefly, how come it 's not supposed to fly above a certain height?
And why fine mesh if they are so large?
I think they do fly higher but it is when the eggs are being 'deposited' that they tend to linger at low levels and this is why the mesh should be fine to stop the eggs landing on your crop :)
I am not happy, i picked some carrots on sunday. Went to use them today and there now riddled with holes and i have baby catapillers in the kitchen.

I don,t think anyone has told the carrot fly that it not supposed to fly higher than 18". If you have solid fencing, how does it get into your garden.

In my opinion on thermal currents!
It is supposedly only the females that fly low, maybe they show an ankle or 3 and hitch a ride with the males to get over barriers,,,
Cos they certainly do get over em ...
So you reckon they have took up Para Gliding then TG
These are obviously ill-educated flies which haven't read the proper books.
oooh I think they are dead smart otherwise we wouldn't be moaning about them
it's just nature doing its thing ;D
