Title: What Gets Under Your Skin?
Post by: Lauren S on September 26, 2007, 12:05:50
                      I DON'T BELIEVE IT
                  (http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa42/ElleEss_photos/RichardWilson.jpg)

                   What Gets Under Your Skin?

1.  When watching the TV, why are the adverts louder than the program?
2.  People with 20 items in the 10 item queue
3.  Drivers who don't use indicators and you have to guess which way they are going.
4.  Poor weather conditions, drives with side lights or no lights
5.  People who chew with their mouth open and more often than not, talk at the same time. (Makes me feel ill)
6. Those annoying 6pm calls from finance companies or double glazing firms
7. Shopping trolleys, when full, make you walk sideways, like somebody drunk.
8. Drivers who over take you, then cut right in front and then speed off. Why not drive that bit further, then change lanes. Grrrrrrr
9.  Seagulls, why, why, why can't I shoot the d**n birds that wake me up at 4am? Dive bomb me when they have young and poop all over my washing. NOW they even steal objects. My ashtray, lighter and a neighbour's saucer all on the garage roof.
10. The phrase...*At The End Of The Day*...oh my my that grates on my nerves more than nails on a blackboard.

Incorrect use of English.
The advert on my local radio station advertising Emporiums ( see previous comment)
The central heating contract company who have failed now on four occasions to make the appointment to service the boiler
Having to fit work into my life which is rather pleasant on its own ( except I like the income)
The smell of bacon ( 'cos  I can't have any any more)
Clothes that assume all women are 5ft 4 and 36dd
The crumblies that swim 3 abreast in the pool chatting, even when one third is laned off for lessons and its busy.
People who can't read "Keep Clear" when written in huge letters on the road.
Reality TV.  I watch telly for the escapism.

And that's just today's rant.

Thank you, I feel much better now.

"Keep Clear" boxes.
If a box on the road says "Keep Clear", then it should mean "Keep Clear" for vehicles coming in from side roads as well as those on the road on which it's painted !!

This is funny!
Glue residues, call center harrasment and other indecencies did not come to mind when I saw the title of this thread.
As a Dutchie I only know the expression from the song "I've got you under my skin".
So my answer would be: my beloved OH.

But he gets under my skin in the less positive way as well, sometimes.

Talking of OH's - DS and I taking the time to sort the recycling only for DH to come along, sling it in a black bag "cos I can't be bothered sorting it!"

The Safe Style UK git who knocked my door at 6ish last night -and when I pointed to the "do not knock if you are selling" sign said "but I'm not selling!" - doh!  what are you doing then love?

What is really annoying me at the moment is an advert with a retard wittling a phone and his mate doing dusty bin impressions.

But I have to watch the adverts just in case I miss the gorrilla playing the drums.

Mothers (2 0f them) who allow their hooligans (sorry meant to say children) to run across my side garden, that's not too bad as it is mostly grass but they (the hooligans) insist on swinging on my rope/post fence and I have to keep straightening it up. Where are the Mothers? Either talking on their mobile phones or effing and blinding at the children if they don't keep up with them!!

EMAGGIE...Re jars/bottles. Easy peasy, just tap round the the edge of the lid, run under a hot tap. Works every time, honest

1.  Children!  Why aren't there more child free zones for Meldrews like me?  Everywhere I go, there they are, being horrible bratty little megaphones.  They don't know how to behave and neither do their parents for letting them behave so badly.  I want child free shopping times, child free restaurants and cinemas etc etc.  How about an adults only town, I'd move there for sure <gg>

2.  People who insist they are right and aren't interested in hearing other people's points of view.

3.  People who try to correct the spelling, punctuation and grammar of other people when theirs is just as bad!! Hahahaha!  I laugh but it seriously does get my goat.

4.  People who choose to talk to you one day but not the next.  Then they do, then they can't be bothered, etc.  Take your schizophrenia elsewhere!

5.  Bad manners.  I don't really find it acceptable.

6.  Britain's human rights system that puts the offender/lawbreaker/criminal above the victim/natives (but don't get me started, I could be here for some time)

7.  Idiots who play the race card because they're not intelligent enough to debate or discuss.

8.  No chocolate.

1)  People who park in parent & toddler spaces or accessible parking spaces when they are not disabled and don't have any kids!!  >:( >:(

I have just left one job and trained up my replacement.  She's perfectly able to get about, 22 and dim.  I wish I was part of the hiring process because I wouldn't have hired her, but it's not my problem now!  Anyhoo, she proudly said that she used the M&T and disabled spaces all of the time because they were closer to the shop!!   >:(  >:(

I yelled at her as if I was her mother for her ignorance at that one  ;D

2) (Same Girl does this)  People who don't put their lights on in adverse conditions.

3) my new colleague at my new job!

She won't shut up!!!!  If someone's done it, she's done it better!!   she laughs like a hyena at the most mundane things.

And she looks like my mother!   (It's not that she looks like my mother that bothers me, its that she looks so much like my mother but doesn't act like her!!)

I'm sure there will be more.  ;D

But life has changed now and women don't stay home to look after the house and family, therefore we need to fit all of this AND a full time job into our daily routines.  It doesn't matter what you think about these spaces, the fact is that they are here and have been designated for use by people with young children and people who don't have kids are parking in them.

Modern life is all about making things easier for people, not just select members of the community.  The reason disabled and Parent & Toddler spaces are bigger is to allow the car doors to swing open so that you can stick your toosh out whilst strapping the kids into thier seats.   DOn't know about you but I'd rather not have dents in my doors just because someone had to squeeze into a tiny space and their door bumped mine.

I'd like to point out that now my kids are 13 and 7 I don't use these spaces as they are intended for people with babies and very young children up to about age 5, so if I did I'd be as bad as the ones who don't have kids at all!!!

Phew!  that was a lot of typing for this time of the morning!

Tell you what really does my flipping dinger in...car drivers who wave me across the road. Sorry but I don't want to be waved across the road I want you to get out of my majestic way so I can walk across safely at my own pace and not have you thinking you are doing me a huge favour whilst you sit behind your wheel impatiently.  Just piss off out of the way will you.

Which brings me to car drivers who use the car for every little journey that they ever think they need to make. GO AWAY! Stop clogging up my town with your filthy heap of tin...adding to the congestion and then waving me across the bloody road!! Get out and use your legs and get some of that fat off your god damned arse.  Disability excepted.

I'm talking about nipping to the local shops or to school when it's just up the road or round the corner to see your mate etc  not about using the car for work..before you think I'm picking on all you car drivers... but listen up..stop parking on the bloody paths will you! Or in front of the dropped kerbs. Nowt wants me to do a Basil Fawlty more. Keep them clear please.

Why do you need to park so close to the door of the supermaket anyway? You need the exercise, stop being so lazy (that is directed very generally and at my OH,infact everything I have written above has been said to him...lazy git lol)

Tesco supermarket at Kingston Park...it smells of mens toilets since they moved the loos near to the doors. So you won't want to park too close to that one will yer LMAO !

Mens toilets. You know that disgusting whiff you get blasted with every time the door is opened.  Bluuuueeergh!  What am I doing hanging around the lavs?? Oops maybe shouldn't have mentioned that one. Moving swiftly on.

Next "next day delivery"...load of crap.

My red glittery shoes.  They are complete barstewards. They look so good but they make you feel so bad.

Swearing without gusto.

The birthday I'm going to tomorrow. AAAAAAAARGH! I have to go in one of those stretch limo things....I will never live it down. They are evil. Mind you the birthday person doesn't drink and I'm the only other adult, I got dumped on as no one else wants to be seen dead in the thing,so ha blinking ha, very funny.I'll quaff the champers, wind the window down and swear at them...with gusto.

;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

LOL here - why is it that at all the purpose built swanky fitness clubs round here, they park outside the bays & on the verges & paths to be near the door rather than a bit further down the car park and walk a few yards?  Is it me or haven't they missed the point?

The woman that has just cut my hair.
I don't mind when someone talks to me, it's being talked at that annoys.  She just talked constantly all the way through it, couldn't get a word in edge ways.  And she also thought that she was an expert in Indian Head Massage because she'd had it herself once - this led to her repeatedly poking me in the head.

Surfice to say that no tip was left (the hair cut looks fine but wasn't actually how I asked for it).  This woman seems to prove an adage oft quoted by my mate Big Vern: "If hairdressers can cut hair then anyone can". (Appologies to any hairdressers reading this who are normal people as I'm sure most are).

I seem to rant and rave about most things that have been mentioned.  Heldi.  I hate them d**n stretch limousines myself, awful things. wouldnt be seen dead in one.  Poor you.

One thing that does get up by nose is   the price of CARDS, Birthday card any type of card, they are sooooo expensive and I find it ridiculous.  The cheapest ones I can find arent fit for purpose, the next decent ones are about £1.49.  What a ridiculous amount for a card.  M&S  have some nice cards for a pound and if I remember I do get stocked up for forthcoming birthdays.

Why do the young folk not write thank you letters any more for Wedding gifts.  Imagine giving someone at least £50 and not saying thank you.  When I was young, it was rammed into me,  remember and write a letter and thank so n so for whatever.

Such is life.

People who post without using any capital letters.

Posting in capitals is famously frowned on as being rude.  I find posts wholly in lower case are just as hard to read, as it makes it difficult to see where sentences begin and end.

Posting without capitals is lazy and inconsiderate.

Prove it. Where are the official forum ettiquette rules.

It seems the apostrophe brigade have stopped sending 'letters to the editor' and are now intent on making up the rules as they go along on the internet.

Free papers, menus and leaflets. Even though we have a sticker on the letter box saying dont post these!

Motorbikes racing in woodland and parks!

Bad manners!

Junk mail delivered by the poor postman who has to carry it all!

Screaming kids!

Dog poo not picked up.......I have 2 dogs and do pick up after them. A couple of years ago I was in a beautiful woods, a middle aged couple walked through the picnic area and watched their Ridgeback  cr*p and walk off. I asked them if they needed a bag thinking they had forgot to pack some. The answer was an indignant "NO?"

I got a bag , picked up after their dog and smeared it on the windscreen of their car. Then drove away really fast. I must add I dont do this sort of thing as a matter of course, but they were SO rude and didn't give a toss. I thought they needed to really think about what they had done. I dont feel proud of what I did, I was furious.

FAO Star - were the beautiful woods sculptured parkland?  If yes, then dog mess should be picked up.  If not and it is wild wood and the dog mess is not on a path but in scrub - why bother?  After all, it is where it would have been had we not been here and killed all the wolves - and foxes don't bother with bags.

Greyhound - your post was just downright rude - something I have been guilty of in the past - hopefully I have learnt my lesson.

Emaggie - It is a very expressive word when used in the right contexts - it is only its severe overuse that is annoying.  Not as good as the word for what the dogs got though ;D

Hi Redclanger,

It wasn't sculptured parkland......but it was a picnic area where children play. Horseriders are also not allowed in this small area. I do feel that because of the nature of this small site in a large woodland it should be common sense to pick up after your dog. The grass in this area is mown short to make it pleasant for families to picnic and children to play.

I do agree however in wild woodland its acceptable to leave were plopped, especially as in my 2's case where they love to dump in a bramble thicket or nettle patch. But I do feel strongly that it be removed from pathways ;)

But thankyou for raising the point :)

......getting lids off jars.....

equipment: 1) a teatowel,etc.,  to provide a non-slip surface.

..2) a small chisel (handily kept in container with other kitchen tools  ::))

Turn your jar upside down on the teatowel. You'll see on the lid praps 3 indentations where the lid has been pinched in to form a perfect seal. Insert chisel between glass jar and the lid at one of these indentations and prise open towards you.

A popping sound will alert you that the hermetic seal is now broken.

Reverse jar and it will open easily with none of the liquid being spilt.

I agree that, as all we have as a conversation medium between us is text and emoticon (smiley faces), it is important to make yourself understood and it is also accepted that capitals denote shouting, but perhaps rather than focussing on the use of capitals at the appropriate places it would be more appropriate to concentrate on making yourself understood.

For example, I often have to read one particular users posts a few times and go back to what was said before in order to follow what this person is on about.

This person comes accross as being very intelligent and uses capitalisation correctly but their sentences are more conversational as opposed to gramatical and therefore come accross as being very harsh on many occasions.  The user in question also 'has a go' at other posters often which is another thing which (to get back to the subject line) gets under my skin.

IMHO

Emaggie - It is a very expressive word when used in the right contexts - it is only its severe overuse that is annoying.  Not as good as the word for what the dogs got though ;D
Agreed. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Going into a so called Garden Centre and having to go right to the back corner of the shop to find anything to do with a garden.

People who park in disabled bays without blue badge leaving me to drive round for ages trying to find a space where I can get Mum's wheelchair out.

People who say to me 'and how's your Mum' when she's sat there in front of them - she might be in a wheelchair but she can still speak!
