Post by: foresterone on September 25, 2007, 15:06:32
I have left the roots of runner beans in the ground (something to do with releasing nitrogen I read?) Do idig them in or what?

They might surprise you and pop up again in the spring. I think I read somewhere (A4A probably) that technically they are perennials - just that the above ground part of them can't handle frosts.

yes, you did hear it here, they are but they need a heavy mulch to protect but worth a try but if leaving for fixing nitrogen they can be dug in any time soon or as you would a green manure

Thanks, I intend to grow another variety (undetermined) and also change position on the plot so I will dig them in as suggested
