Title: what are wildflowers
Post by: manicscousers on September 14, 2007, 18:45:39
I read in the paper, while in Cornwall..
"the new walls the council have built are now covered in weeds, they should rip them all out and plant wild flowers in them"  ??? ???

Walls or hedges? It's difficult to imagine the average wall being convered in either weeds or  wildflowers, but Cornish hedges, which can look very like walls when newly built, certainly will.

Erigeron, and red valerian grow nice in walls. Both semi wild.

A Pennine style dry stone wall would be a rarity there. I bet it was a hedge, ie an earth bank faced with dry stone. That would be covered with vegetation very fast.
