When is the best time to take hollyhock seeds from the stem. Should they be left as long as possible or can I take them now and dry them off? They are still very green and soft. Any advice would be very welcome. I have never saved seed of any kind before but I am keen to save seed from my hollyhocks as they were such a wonderful dark bluish black. However they suffereds from blight.
They suffered from blight? Are you sure? ??? I thought blight only affected tomatoes and potatoes. Hollyhocks is normally hit by rust.
We left our seeds on the stems until they were dry and then took them off and put them in envelopes, you could probably take them off before but you'd need to dry them thoroughly before storing them. The best way would be to cut a stem off and tie string around it to hang it up somewhere indoors or in a shed to dry.
Just take them off once they're dry.
I agree - let them dry on the plant. If you take them too early, you'll find that many are not viable.
