Title: toilets
Post by: gingerninja38 on September 02, 2007, 23:28:20
hello, our lottie plots now have a large number of women and we have now formed a sub committee to deal with 'womens issues' such as fund raising, trips etc.
one of the first issues is toilets, we are looking at getting some facilities installed and it's going to cost about £3000. this is for a septic tank and toilet block with disabled access.
has anyone any idea if there are any grants avail for this type of work?
we want to be able to open up the site more for opendays, fun days etc, but we need to have toilet facilities if we will be supplying food and drink to the public, plus our site is very overlooked and it's hard to pee when you think some one is watching!!
thanks people

Hehe,  I just have a black plastic bucket and loo roll on standby in shed #2!  ;D

Have you thought about building a compost toilet?  There's something about it in the John Seymore book I have got; The new complete book of self-sufficiency.  well worth a read.  I'll post up the basic stuff about it if you are interested.

no, it will be a permanent structure, as a portaloo has to be emptied weekly and we don't want to be giving out the entry number to everybody in the company as they can't guarentee the same person would come every week.
we have been looking at either a purpose prefab toilet block with 1 urinal and 1 loo for men and 2 ladies loos with disabled access on the ladies side. or the cheaper option will be to buy a shed and fit a loo inside it and have a unisex loo. but by law it has to have a sink with running water, does not need to be hot nor suitable for drinking.
