Would this grow well in a greenhouse ? It will be hard pruned.
I imagine it would grow fast! They are a common garden tree around here. I love them and if I had a couple of acres, I would definately grow one.
They are a lovely tree in the right place but even hard pruned I doubt you could make a shrub of one.
I will be able to - my stick insects feed on them.
careful! some species are smaller but the gum tree grows very quickly!! it will soon be a bit of a handful!
Some types grow outside here in my region which has reasonably chilly winters, you might be able to grow outside if you like. I can't see it being contained in a green house for more than a year or two!
Not sure why you'd want to grow it in a greenhouse?
My Eucalyptus gunnii does very well outside. It's grown as a tree, but I chop (and I do mean chop) about 8 feet off it early each spring to keep it down to its 7ft height.
You can cut them almost to the ground and they'll come back with lots of fresh new growth.
The new immature shoots produce the round leaves for florists...
