A miracle has happened and my fig tree, outside in Glasgow is ripening the figs, for the first time. the tree is about 3 years old. They were green, but in the space of a week, they started turning light brown from the base upwards, and becoming slightly soft.
Does anyone have any experience of when to actually pick the fruit?
I had thought that it was the variety "Brown Turkey", but now I am not certain.
Ours is 1 year old & we've had a few wonderful fruit from it. Just finished 2 tonight.
Wait until it droops - like it's sad!
Ha! mine are all eaten and finished here in the south east corner. :( I pick mine when they are brown and come away easily. They are at their sweetest then. Not a good idea to leave them on the tree after that 'cos if you don't eat 'em, something else will. ;D
