Title: Help! Burnt on Chutney!
Post by: Doris_Pinks on August 23, 2007, 17:20:41
Have managed to burn the bottom of my preserving pan whilst making chutney yesterday.
It has been soaking overnight, and again all of today, but is badly stuck!
Bar taking a hammer and chisel to it, how can I get the carbon off the bottom as I need to boil up my cucumber pickle tonight!

Thanks

DP

Biological powder in hot water sometimes helps. But needs to soak.

You can also try boiling vinegar in it - but wear goggles as really gets to the eyes!!

Also, I've been advised to fill with coca cola before - but not sure if it works

I have heard coca cola works, like wise vinigar, if you want to brighten the inside of sausepans cook a rhubarb leaf cut up in it, it sparkles.

Well, did the biological soak overnight...........was so burnt on it didn't touch it!
Next step was going to be oven cleaner, but OH attacked it with a paper stripper tool, did the job beautifully! ;D

Thank You for all your suggestions......I will try and be more vigilant next time! ::)
