Title: I Just Had To Try
Post by: Susiebelle on August 23, 2007, 09:24:12
I am not really a chutney person but I just had to have a go after reading how industrious you all are - so yesterday made my first beetroot chutney using Rick Steins recipe, now all jarred & labeled, smelt very strong & vinegary but hope it will turn out OK

I worried about my first lot of chutney coming out vinegary, don't worry though, leave for a few months, It'll be wonderful  ;D

You'll be hooked Susie! I made chutney last year and although I thought I'd gone overboard with the amount I made we did manage to eat it all.

This year I have already made runner bean chutney and red tomato chutney.

Leave yours to mature and it'll be fantastic!  ;D

How long can it be stored?

I have found some green tomato chutney at the back of the cupboard

which must be over a year old.

Shall I keep it or throw it out??

I still have some from 2005 and have no intention of throwing it out. Just like a few jars of jam I still have - one jar is from 2003. They will obviously be used up according to age, but they should store for years if properly sealed originally.
