I am growing Calliope and have just spotted my first ever aubergine. It's a bit bigger than an egg and looks yummy, but how do I tell when it's ready for harvest?
Just done a search for that variety and it matures at 5cm. Pick when shiny when it looses its shine they will be tough and dry, hope this helps! and well done you!!! its soooooo exciting spotting the first one of the season....
And if they (any Aub) get too large, the seeds turn to wood.
that's interesting Tim
I'm going to the garden later, I will try to remember my camera and take a pic. i think that aubergine will be destined for my supper plate ;D
But even if it goes over you can scoop them out and use the rest for Mousaka and stuff..
:D
I'm growing this one too - have one that looks nearly ready to harvest - they are so pretty. ;D
we've actually got an aubergine forming ;D
