Title: Simac Pastamatic machine
Post by: pg on August 18, 2007, 10:17:10
Getting a little fed-up with the slowness of my my hand cranked pasta machine I bought myself an all in one mix and extrude pasta maker on ebay.

It works great, but I'm missing the tagliatelle plastic shaping extrusion bit. I've got the spaghetti one, so I've been making lots of this, but I'd love to expand my range.

Anyone have a spare tagliatelle attachment for a Simac Pastamatic machine or know where I can get one?

I'd love any tips on getting the best from the this, so if any forumites out there have a Simac, please pass on your experiences.

I've got one of the machines, but I didn't get on with it.  It's a back of the cupboard item.  I'll have to get it out to have a look what attachments there are with it.  Will let you know, probably tomorrow.

Thanks valmarg.

Can you tell me why you relegated it to the back of the cupboard?

If you can use a food processor or bread machine you'll be able to handle an electric pasta maker.

All you do is weigh out your ingredients put them in the machine and press the button. The paddle mixes the dough. Then with the paddle still running you remove a slot and the paddle pushes the dough down into the extruder cavity. The dough is pushed through holes (which you can adjust for size and shape) and long strips of pasta come out - but quite slowly. I timed myself from weighing to dropping in boiling water - 20 mins for 1/4 lb of pasta. I shall up-date the food area of my blog with my exploits next time I use it.

I bought a Simac Pastamatic MX700 on ebay for 80 quid. This is the smaller model and will make a maximum 1/2 lb of pasta. New it will cost about 200 pounds. Expensive yes. But if you plan to make a lot of pasta, worth it I thought. They come up on ebay every so often and seem to sell for up to 100 pounds secondhand.

I get all my flour (extra coarse wholemeal for my breadmachine and semolina for pasta) from Shipton Mill. Lots of speciality flours and works out cheaper than buying Doves from the supermarket.

Looked at Shipton Mill website as I make my own bread, and wanted to try some of their speciality flours.  Prices are quoted including delivery, but when I went to place an order, it added a whopping £15 delivery surcharge at the end.  Needless to say I pressed the cancel button.

I'm not quite sure what you saw there luckydog. But the website shouldn't add on delivery. Checking by phone I can confirm that delivery is included in the cost of the flour.

However, I also learned Shipton Mill will start adding on approx. 3 pounds for p&p upto 20kg in about 3 weeks time. Apparently they are updating their site and will add this on then.

Another couple of quid on top of my order for about 15kg isn't going to break the bank for me and will still work out cheaper, and better, than I've seen elsewhere. But let me know if you see a better deal!

Oops, my mistake pg!!    ::)   I'd inserted my address details as if I lived in Ireland, not the Mainland.  That's why a surcharge was added.  Loads of choice, so have now placed an order.  ;D

Sorry, have just realised that I've moved away from the original thread.
