All the strawberry plants in my garden have not flowered this year. Plenty of lush growth but not a flower or berry in sight. I have given them lots of tomato food when watering. Some of the plants are last year's runners in growbags; other batch are in their second year in a new bed; other group are in their third year (due to be thrown out) which produced masses of fruit last year.
I am reluctant to take runners from any of the plants this year, just in case there is some problem, apart from the wet weather.
Suggestions, please.
I think you're supposed to feed them when they start fruiting, shirley, i may be wrong ;D
I planted 24 plants I was given that were made from runners last October. It is my first year with strawberries. I just planted them on manure & soil then left them to do their own thing. We got at least 7-8 punnet's over a 6 week period, not including the 5-6 that the slugs got. I did not get as many flowers as there were strawberries though.
Couldn't tell you the variety but I have just put 30 runners into pots this week to make a second bed later this year.
we have 30 second year and 40 first year strawberries, we never feed or water them..even the fourth years we put in buckets to force for a last ditch effort fruited, maybe it is a variety problem :)
Thanks for your replies - the variety is Sarian, which I grew from seed. Perhaps I have just exhausted the crop. It looks as if I will have to start again next year. My garden is small, so I only grow a few plants - enough to give me fresh strawberries through the summer for my breakfast. Really missed out this year!
