Title: Brassica Plants on Sale
Post by: Chantenay on August 09, 2007, 17:54:53
I lost all my purple sprouting, most caulis and january cabbages to waterlogging, slugs and greyfly, but Dobies are doing a young plant collection, ten each of early white and early purple sprouting, early and late spring cabbages and April caulis for £10. Not cheap, but the thought of no sprouting or caulis is worse!
Might be a useful stop-gap tip for those with new allotments.

Marshalls are doing something similar and I have used them myself but have always found the results very variable...

I would also recomend http://www.organicplants.co.uk/

If you give them a call i am sure they will still have some of the plants that would have been sent out in july.

Our allotment shop has it's own little nursery also. They always sell plug plants of everything throughout the year. 60p for a cell tray of 6 plants.

Due to work commitments I missed some seed sowing. This past month I have purchased 12 Ormskirk Savoy cabbage and 12 of another variety, 30 swede, 12 Snow cauliflowers. All for under £4. Now all nicely transplanted. May be worth first checking with nearby lottie shops to see if you can get a cheaper deal .

Thanks - that sounds even better. And it's Ormskirk that I lost!!
