Title: beetroot and apple chutney

Have made some beetroot and apple chutney yesterday and it said when you warm your jars you put the chutney in the jars and you can put the lids on wilst the chutney is still warm i have never done this before is this correct please.

Sutton Girl, that's how I do it, same with all chutneys, jams, jellies and pickles!

(Don't know if it's right though)!

Dont know if ts relevent but mom used to do it with jams, you know when you had jam jars with some polythene or whatever on top and an elastic band, or with the normal lids. The idea is as it cools the air inside shrinks and pulls the lid tight and makes a seal.

Correct.  Putting the lids on whilst it is warm creates a slight vacuum as the chutney cools.  I do it for any preserve.

Hi

Beetroot and apple chutney sounds fab. Where can I get the recipie? Also do you use cooking or eatin apples, and do you grow them yourself?
