The usual multifarious collection of weedlings is appearing around all my lovely aspiring veg. Up until now I've just been pulling the weeds by hand (hoping to get the roots up too) but as I get more beds going this process is taking longer and longer, so I guess it's time to sharpen up the hoe. But do people tend to leave the aftermath of the hoeing where it fell or do you collect it up and dispose of it away from the growing area? I'm thinking that leaving dead plant material around oughta be good for the soil, but am I running the risk of any of this weed debris starting to grow again and thus multiplying the number of weeds?
Depends on the weather at the time. If you do it in dry weather, then small weeds will dry out and die. if you do it in wet weather, some of them may re-root.
Well said!
