Title: Is it slugs?
Post by: kt. on August 07, 2007, 22:05:39
I pulled my Pentland Crown spuds today. They were planted in a bed section near to next doors overgrown part of his plot. There appears to be a lot of light brown, smooth markings around about 1/2 of the spuds. Its not worms and its not blight as it is not soft. I think it is where slugs have slid around them. I have scratched back the skin in these areas & they are fine otherwise.

My questions are:
1) if it is slugs: Are the spuds OK to eat still as it appears to have dried throughout the day but is still marked, .
2) if it is slugs or if not: would they still store.

I'm not sure, but we have had a few potatoes similarly afflicted, and I thought it could be potato scab.

We've been eating them, and they have tasted OK, but I'm not sure about whether they will store.

I think I know the sort of thing you mean, I eat them, the scab rubs off with the skin. The shop-bought ones also often have it. If we're talking about the same thing.
