Title: Butternut squash plants have made it.. how to keep them alive
Post by: cocopops on August 07, 2007, 21:34:46
Like most others I have lost lots of my veg. (my first year so I was not overly optimistic anyway).

I posted a while back about my squashes which were doing well.    The general opinion was to leave them.  My husband now said it is like the 'invasion of the body snatchers' out there.  They are flowering at the moment so if anyone could give me any pointers on how to look after them at this point it would be greatly appreciated.  Just bought a really cheap second hand freezer in anticipation of loads of squash soup (fingers crossed x)

I would just leave them to nature but thats not worked real well for you so far.

Have you got many bees around?

You can pollinate them by hand if you want... but I'm sure they'll be fine left to their own devices...
;D

Mine are alive, but really doing nothing; yeaterday there was a single flower between half a dozen plants. Yours will be OK, its not only bees that pollinate them. Flies are important too.
