Done. God knows we have enough shopping malls, we should all support efforts to keep local identities in our own areas too.

I won't be signing the petition.

I used to take my son there on a Sunday when he was but a sprout. We'd wander round the stalls, jam packed with interesting and eclectic stuff, listening to the music from the busking bands, and watching all manner of street theatre acts - jugglers, fire eaters, you name it. Then there came a "refurb". The place was tarted up - nice new fixtures and fittings and so on.  More upmarket i.e. expensive goods became ever more prevalent. Locals couldn't afford to rent a stall in 'their own' market. The street theatre and buskers were banned. Camden Lock more or less died overnight. Gradually it has become a place for outsiders to sell to outsiders. The locals just get to pick up the cleaning bill. Oh, and the discarded drugs paraphernalia.

So no, I won't be trying to flog this dead horse - though you'd probably find just such an item at the Lock - stuffed, mounted and going for around ten grand.

Besides, who knows - we might get a Wilkinsons!

;D

:( I have to admit I haven't been to the market in years but have fond memories of it being exactly as you described, amazin.
that's very sad.

I shall watch the courgette one with interest - I'm about to reap a crop from my lottie that isn't radishes (well, isn't only radishes anyway)!

I know that he's a little bit overdone cockeny-geezer init, but I guess if it gets people with similar trendy pretensions, who get everything from the super market, into growing their own then it's not a bad thing really.
