we get red palm/ canola oil from asda, called carotino..I know it's not quite the same but is it anywhere near ;D ;D
I'd hate freddie to be upset, he gave some of his peanuts to me ;D
im not sure im trying to find out ill get back to you when i find out
dont worry about the peanuts he hasnt noticed yet lol ;D
Palm oil is a bit esoteric, but you can get it in London; it's a problem anywhere else. I don't know about the others, but the oil is extensively used in Sierra Leonean cooking.
apparantlly the stuff i am looking for in asda is called Pride unrefined palm oil if anyone can find some
I have a jar of Pride unrefined palm oil in the cupboard. A friend bought it in an Asian supermarket in Harrow Middx - because we're vegetarian he thinks we need fattening up and occasionally drops by with wierd foodstuffs. What do you do with palm oil? I havn't got a parrot.
i have absolutely no idea what people do with it for humans i would only use it for my parrot and for them you can spread it on toast or melt it and drip it over food
I'm sure I've seen those in the local Asian Supermarket? Do you want me to keep an eye out?

We live in North Harrow, quite close to several such shops, and it's easily available - often in 5 gallon drums! So somebody must like it a lot.
You can use it as a general cooking oil, but it tends to leave a very slight coating in the roof of your mouth, so it's not my first choice of healthy vegetarian oil. Better than corn oil, I suppose. But not as good as groundnut oil. (I'm not counting the posh oils such as olive oil, of course.) Certainly not much good for vinaigrette.
Here's a link to Pride (now part of Westmill, which in turn is part of ABF)

Namissa uses it in what might possibly be described as stews, basically meat, fish, vegetables, chopped leaves (usually cassava or sweet potato). chili and palm oil.
this is what the asda jar looks like and it is found in the foods of the world section if anyone can find me a jar i will gladly reimburse them the cost and postage and packing
Here's their website Deb. There's a trade page on there so you might be able to buy it wholesale?
