Title: Paint and fruit juice
Post by: cleo on August 03, 2007, 16:49:00
any ideas please? I`ve got an amateur size fruit press(Vigo?) but over the years the base unit has flaked and gone rusty in places. Soon will be apple pressing time,I intend to give it a good scrubbing with a wire brush but would welcome views on the best paint to use. The juice is only in contact for a few seconds-should I paint or just leave clean metal?-

I would use Hammerite but you may have left it a bit late for this season. Hammerite takes absolutely ages to go glassy hard and from memory I think it is a minimum of 6 weeks on the tin.

I used Hammerite "metal shades" to paint my rusty clothes drier this week, and it dried in a few hours. The tin says "touch dry 1 hour, re-coat between 1-8 hours". There's a website www.hammerite.com, which might help.
