Title: Fennel
Post by: Tin Shed on July 31, 2007, 22:22:07
A friend gave me a whole tray of florence fennel, which I duly planted out and they looked superb  - but now they have all bolted. Looking back through other 'fennel threads' watering seems to be vital in stopping them bolt. However they have still bolted despite all this years rain. Any ideas what to do next year to get a crop?????

Plant them late; I sowed mine in early & mid July into pots (they don't like root disturbance) and have just planted my 2nd batch out yesterday.

Thanks for the replies  - do you think it is worth trying again this year or is it just too late?

I sowed a row today, and will probably try another next week

last year the last sowing was the only one that didn't go to seed, planted later than now last year cus the ground was too hard to work. Bulbs were small mind

I sowed a row a few weeks ago, and am hopefully going to put another row in this week, nought to loose but a few seeds....we love fennel! ;D
