Title: Please settle an argument.
Post by: Hawkweed on July 31, 2007, 13:04:41
I am having trouble identifying this tree. I photographed it at the Arundel Wetlands and Wildfowl Trust on Sunday.

I think it's Sorbus torminalis - Wild Service Tree but a friend thinks not, though he cannot tell me what he thinks it is...as he doesn't know. Please help me.  :-\ :-\

Looks like Guelder Rose to me (Viburnum Opulus), one of our native species.

Thanks from m, too- I think that's what I've seen at Askham Bog, a wetland near here.

One way of telling if it's guelder rose is if you open up a berry, the seed inside is heart shaped, although I'm not sure if that is unique to Guelder rose.
