We've got bees! - Bumble bees that is. A group of bumble bees have set up home in a small bird box that's on the back of our house.
Spent some considerable time last night just sitting and watching them come and go. It was great (and rather amusing) to watch as they aimed for the 5cm hole in the front of the box - for something that flies for a living they aren't particularly accurate!
:) :) :)
Excellent. I'm sure I heard Bill Odie telling us that the bumble bee is in decline and we should all be making bumbler houses in our gardens! And you have one! Congrats. We had a whopper in our house today and our son was less than impressed, so I caught it between a glass and a piece of card and deposited it on the garden table, waited until it settled and removed the glass, then watched it from the safety of the conservatory. The bumbler tried hard to sting the book! I have never seen a bee actually attempt to sting something. It arched its body in such an odd way and then out popped the sting! Bloody amazing this nature lark!! ;D
There are loads of bees in our garden. I love watching them. buzzling about and occassionally going mad over a penstemon or fox glove (they seem particular favourites).
They seem so cute and fat and cuddly!
And I just love that we live in a world in which it is scientifically impossible for bumble bees to fly and yet they do!
