Hi I found this site last night (recommended by another keen allotmenteer). I've been spending some time lurking, reading what I can and generally finding my way around. Good grief! What a wonderful site - only problem is how can I get through it all and keep up with all that's going on.
We got our lottie in July last year, spent a long time clearing and laying it out, but still managed to grow some stuff. Got off to a good start this year, and things going well (with one or two exceptions which I'm prepared to give a decent burial).
Looking forward to sharing everyone's stories and learning from all you wise gardeners. I just love my allotment! ;D
nice to see u here lavender nice name by way and one of my fave plants met u in chat last nite ;D what an introduction for u ::) ;D ;D hope to see u in there again sometime and this site is just brill so welcome aboard
Ann-Marie
Hi flower, yeah it was a bit of a baptism of fire, but good fun. I'll be back when I feel a bit more confident ;)
No fire here - just warm hearts. = Tim
aaw - that's really nice Tim. Aren't gardeners a friendly lot :D
Edit : to clarify - the chat room last night was really friendly too - everyone made me welcome. Baptism of Fire is only used because it was not only my first visit to this chatroom, it was my first time ever (didn't confess that last night though) :-[
Hi, Lavender, I'm one of the not-so-wise allotmenteers but ever so keen! Like you I'm also not a confident chat room user - never used one till I came here and have only ventured in a couple of times but they are nice and welcoming there aren't they? Trouble is I think I should keep up with what everyone is saying and of course that's not possible!!
See you around the site
Megan

Welcome, both - and good to see Ireland on the member map. That's Canada, US, Belgium, Netherlands, and Sweden so far - just a few more to go!
All best - and enjoy
Gavin
thanks gavin :)
Hi there Tig and Lavender,
Now as everyone will tell you I am the sane one around here. Never hear of me being silly - no honestly!! ;) ;)
I don't have a lottie but that doesn't stop me growing all kinds of stuff in the garden. Mind you I do have to fight the birds when my red and black currants ripen. Not a pretty sight I can tell you! :P
Welcome to the forums - ask any question you like -there's always someone around who will have the answer you need. Post a joke in the watershed or simply chat in the shed about whatever you like. Before you know it you'll be as addicted as the rest of us.
Well I'm of to have a daft half hour (I only have them every twenty minutes) so see you around.
Eileen.
Thanks for the welcome Eileen. Everyone's been so friendly, and you're right there's always someone to answer the questions. Brilliant.
Went to BBC Gardeners World yesterday, and there was a lot of emphasis on veggie growing in gardens and small spaces (even pots). It's amazing the stuff that can be crammed in, and even though the flower displays were wonderful, the veg gardens looked every bit as pretty. So, proves you don't need a field to grow your own. :)
Hi Lavender &tig nice to have you aboard, yes everyone is very friendly and kind on here, even Eileen they let her out for the day yesterday, now she has gone back i can come out ;D ;D.
Cheers Rosebud.
Hi tig and lavender, welcome to a wonderful side with a lot of garden wisdom ahum ahum, but no kidding its nice to have you on board and a lo t of fun .One of the continantel chaps.
From one Newbie to another hi, I'm still trying to find my way aroundJust trying out all these little icons and things, haven't a clue what they are, still it should be funny trying them out....for you lot, the wise.
Helloooo-im a newbie as well!
After re-registering with an auxillary e-mail account,i can actually join in.For some strange reason,it wouldnt accept the one i was originally given and they wouldnt e-mail me with a copy???
Anyway,im a defector from the beeb gardening site (he,he) and this site looks like a much better place to be!!!
;D ;D ;D
Welcome Lavender, tig & Val - great to have you here with us :D I am not an allotmenteer, just grow a few bits in my garden where I have the space, but really enjoy hearing all about others' plots and their successes. We are quite a mixed lot (not all mad like Eileen & Rosebud ;D :D ;))
Seriously though, there are alot of very knowledgeable folks on this site so I'm sure all your questions will be answered :)
Pat
PS Just noticed Bubble's post, another defector :D Welcome Bubble. :)
Hi , i am also new to this site and i find very friendly , the plot is doing well for myself and 2 brothers , we are not doing bad for three amatures ???
Hi worzel - welcome to you too :D Good luck to you and your brothers with your allotment :)
Pat
I'm a relative newbie too - when we first got our allotment I asked for advice here. Now, two months on we have a whole ton of stuff coming up - potatoes, cabbages, lettuce, tomatoes, berries of all kinds, onions, leeks. I am also ridiculously chuffed at my flowering courgette plant!
It's so interesting to see everything grow - we're going to have a party where we provide the food from the lottie and everyone else provides the booze! ;D
Hi Bubble and other newcomers. Just joined too.See you around.
