Title: To deter Squirrels from invading your bird table/bird feeders
Post by: Hyacinth on July 23, 2007, 18:46:58
A tip, In memory of Colin Bellamy-Wood, whom I've just read in The Shed passed away recently :'(....

Colin, at one time, used to keep a pet shop, and posted this tip on the Beeb Boards....

Squirrels don't like chilli. Chilli doesn't affect birds in any way whatsoever.

Mix chilli flakes - the dried stuff you can buy at supermarkets - in with the food/seed and nuts.

Result - happy well-fed birds, thin and scowling squirrels 8)

This works! Colin used to sell bags of chilli flakes in his pet shop, so worth checking one out to see if they do a cheaper deal than supermarkets.

Lish I've stopped putting out food for the birds. Not because of squirrels although the little b**ggers have chewed and destroyed practically every feeder I've bought. No, one morning last year I was sitting having breakfast and looking out to see who's who on the bird table when I saw a brown rat shin up the pole and tuck in to the bird food. Really puts you off putting out bird food. :( :( :o :o
