Come on you West Country lovelies. Anyone near my home of Barnstaple or Bideford?
i am never quite sure if bournemouth is south east or south west but if its ok with you can we join the west country lovelys? i am originally a cornish girl so thats what i would say. ;D
I always say South West Sarah although I'm never sure either! We seem to be bang in the middle. ;D
Where is Gloucester? Midlands or South West!!!
always think of bristol as the west country. we are north of it near the wiltshire border

South West Sue!
Yep I agree, we are in the South West Sue.
It is confusing though as you say, sometimes classed as midlands!
I dont have a lottie but my garden is in the south west, EJ im quite close to you im in exeter
Hanham in Brissle here - God's Country!!
Bournemouth is South West, which is in Dorset. The cut off from South East to S/West is Hampshire/Dorset Border.
;D ;D 8)
Dont have a lottie but do my gardening in plymouth, cant get more south west than that. I really think the south west is only devon and cornwall, as we have the lowest wages in the country until you add glos. dorset etc.
My lotty's in Exeter and is fairly tidy at moment but little on the go. Must get on top of it for winter. Friend and I share it but I am currently 27 weeks pregnant so not going to be much use over winter.
My Lottie is in the Eastern region right near the sea Sutton On Sea near Mablethorpe i live right near the sea and my lottie is about ten minutes from the sea loverly in the summer but very cold in winter.
Well another one from Dorset and further wes than Bournemouth.
I don't have a Lottie but am attempting to grow vegi's in the garden.......digging dogs allowing!!! Have grown and eaten potatoes, broad beans, peas, runner beans, caarrots ,lettuce, corgettes so far and still some veg. to come
Hi everyone from Weston-super-Mare :)
Not an allotment but a garden in Cornwall, just. Bournemouth is definitely not the south west but the south ! South west is Devon and Cornwall and a tiny bit of Somerset and Dorset, perhaps, if they are good and dont talk about it.. People here sometimes talk of going to England ( Plymouth, Devon ) to do the shopping.
My allotment is in Sallisbury Wilts. We have a tennis court as nieghbours so get a good supply of tennis balls.
My Lottie is in the small village of Shaldon, Devon. Across the estuary from Teignmouth. And the views are very distracting.

Lauren ;D
o you lucky thing, teignmouth is my favourite place. as for bournemouth not being south west, i agree that cornwall and devon are technically south west ( i am a cornish girl myself and know the score!) but sometimes south east or west are the only options and we clearly are neither. anyway what ever...wish i had a plot in shaldon!
whereabouts in dorset are you shed hobbit?
Lucky you! I used to live in Teignmouth, and have friends in Shaldon and Teignmouth that we see often! Are the lottie fees in line with the house prices in Shaldon?
Hi all!
I am in Minehead which is South west near to Weston super Mare and midway to Exeter I think. Lovely views you have - i have a slightly similar view although the water is wider and the other side of it is Welsh Wales!!
Old Bird ;D
QUOTE... Are the lottie fees in line with the house prices in Shaldon?
I only pay £10.00 a year; Next year I get it for free because of the poor condition it was in.
Lauren :)
Ivybridge in Devon.
nice veiw lauren, shame you havent got a nice green shed up there to have a cup of tea and enjoy the view ;D
Oh Denis, do you know of a nice green shed? ;D
The only decent GREEN shed on the site has been taken by the allotment secretary. Four plots, wow the perks of the job. ::)
Lauren
Dont get around much do yer! ;)

OHHHHHHHHHHHH ding dong..... been staring at that shed for five mins. Oh heck you are right at the top of the site aren't you? Ha ha. ;D
It's looking great. It didn't have any fruits on it much the last time I saw it.
Lauren ;D ;D
Actually it was the little stove I recognised first. ;D

Evening esre
just read your post of Aug26, my wife comes from W.S.M and i was in the navy there (by locking airport).
Used to be brilliant lotties but i bet they are nearly all built on now.
What a good thread :D
I agree that Bournmouth isn't technically the south west but I guess we can let them join in! ;D
I'm in Torbay, love the picture of Shaldon Lauren I must go there again soon, now all the grockles have gone!
I haven't got a lottie either actually, only a garden, but I still have fun.
Nippie let me know when you come over and perhaps we can meet up at the allotment. :)
Hi Gordonsveg, I'm pretty sure all the allotments are the same as they used to be, just a bit more over grown in some places. My Dad remembers the entrance to mine being round the back of the electricity board place and across the railway tracks.
Mine are the main ones in town but there are still some out at Worle, Kewstoke and Hutton Moor as well as the parish owned ones in the villages.
After a year off and having no lottie i have just taken another one on at the same site i used to be at in Bournemouth, looks like there are a few of us in this area ;D
which site are you on flower of shona? theres a couple of us from lingdale road and at least one from roeshot hill christchurch. i dontknow of anyone from north bournemouth but there may be some. ifyouare on lingdale i will come and say hi!
Hi Sarah,
Im on Brook road site Northbourne ;D
Its just had all new road ways and loads of upgrade work done on it so we are very lucky.
Its a self managed site and is very well looked after.
Used to be at Rutland road Christchurch and that is a nice site to :)
Popped down this morning for a quick tidy and the rep mentioned that he was showing someone around who said they knew someone with a couple of kids who had recently taken on a new plot. Only person he could think of was me so now I'm really curious!
If it's anyone from here feel free to say Hi, I can't think of anyone it could be that I know and I'm going to be racking my brains now until I find out!
have only just discovered that i was asked where i am in Dorset.....if still interested i live in Upton just outside Poole, sorry don't check site as often as i should.
Ooooooooooo Shed you are not to far from us ;D we used to live in Parkstone and had a lottie at Fleetsbridge roundabout !
I`m on Rutland Road Allotments, Christchurch, its a great site. Everyone is so friendly. We have had quite a few who have given up their allotments this year so lots of new people have come in with lots of new ideas. Really pepped up the site.
Hi Fuchsia,
We used to be on Rutland road when we lived in Christchurch !!
My brother and sis in law are still there by the main car part (stu and eileen) we where behind chicken Malcolms plot :)
I used to run the lovely shop :D
where is the rutland road site in christchurch guys? is it the one between stewerts and the sweetcorn fields or am i thinking of a different one? i am sure jitterbug is there too. we should all try and meet up in the spring. :)
Rutland road is off Fairmile, The Fairmile Inn and a petrol station is directly opp the road :)
ahhh, i didnt know there was a site around there. cool. i will come and have alook see sometime. :)
I know Stu and Eileen and Malcom. My plot is opposite malcoms but right in the corner, Peters old plot. We should all get together at some point when the weathers better ::)
There is a brick built BBQ on mine, looking for an excuse along with Malcom to get it going. Malcom seems to be keen on me to continue Peters tradition of making homemade wine !! I`ve heard stories lol.
hi, i am on southey rd allotments in somerford, christchurch
Peters plot won a place in a competition a few years ago :D
It would be nice to all get togeher for a cuppa and a chat :)
Peters wine was ummmmmmmmmm lets say strong ;D
Just thought, have you still got the peach trees ect on the plot ????
Hi
There is a peach (1) tree in the polytunnel. I met Peter for the first time last week, what a great guy, we had such a laugh. He`s going to bring me photo`s of the plot when he first got it. There is also a small apricot tree outside. Look forward to meeting up.
Fuchsia
My allotment is in Exeter. The site is very high up so its very exposed and windswept in winter, (lots of sheds get blown over then if they're not tied down!), and the soil is the red Devon Clay, hard work initially but reasonably fertile once worked and improved with loads of organic stuff. . On the positive side, we get the sun for most of the day, and we do get the most fantastic views, right out over the countryside and out to the sea on a clear day!
KK
Just looked back at various postings. Some of us talked about getting together in the spring. I`m on the Rutland Road site in Christchurch, anyone interested in coming down for a cuppa and a nose around the plots? I have tea making facilities and a toilet lol if that helps !!
Hi, south west, but only a garden and a couple of greenhouses, BAWDRIP in the country nearest towns taunton, weston-super-mare, and street village.

Hi Leets and welcome from me too
You are near to Debster and not far away from me either ;D

Technically, the lottie is probably in the South East but the village is Dorset and therefore South West. The village is Alderholt and is the last Dorset village going East, the village is to the right of the road with the lottie on the left, the road is the boundary between Dorset & Hampshire. However, always a South Wester so South West it is!
Welcome to the site Teejayef... :)
I got a plot on the Lowerside allotments Glastonbury
Hi all - I am new to this forum. I have a newish allotment on Plymouth and am still busy fighting off grass and brambles. Learned a lot from this site already.

Nice to see Swindon getting mentions. I am a lttle way north of Swindon. Bit wet last night.
hi plymouth maid,
i am also in plymouth and got an allotment recently-which one are you at? :)
HI to all other South Westies,
I am in Cornwall, up the windy Tamar Valley near Gunnislake. My Granda had a market garden in BoHetherick if any of you know that, and having skipped a generation I am back to till on Cornish soil. Growing conditions go from bl**dy brilliant to bl**dy abyssmal depending on weather - we get a lot of it, and mostly before anyone else in the country gets it, prevailing winds being westerly. But when the sun shines the earth dries to a fine powder - like just now, we had no rain for 2 weeks when the rest of the county and even Plymouth, only 13 miles away had torrents.
Harvesting lots right now, but broad beans a disaster (did not water enough in our 2-week drought) and I cannot grow a carrot unless in a bath full of compost. Pumpkins struggling, courgettes thriving, got peas comin' out me ear'oles. Gave up on runner beans after last years harvest had a slugfest, but my spuds is gorgeous! Weeds are so jelous of my lottie they keep wanting to come on and play. But truly this is God's own county (with no apology to any other county in the south-west!)
A4U is A14ME.

Hi again - to those in Plymouth who were asking.... my plot is on the Swarthmore site behind the railway station. Where are you?
hi ej i`m in plymouth-any good? ???
Hello, just registered; I'm Inner Street allotments Grantham. Free water courtesy of the river Witham!
Arthur hello and welcome to A4A!
I see that your plot is in East Angela, or the Midlands, rather than the South West but no worries as we all put messages in the wrong place at times! There's nothing like a bit of confusion to keep us on our toes!
wotcha arthur !! welcome aboard
Hi. Lucky you with the river for water.
Its good for a laugh and info. on here.
Hi Arthur. Nice to have loads of water, but the problem with rivers is the sometimes you get rather too much.
Nice to hear that more places are joining us here in the SW. There's a little gentle rivalry with them up north. So welcome to our team.
arthur ain't in the south with you jessies! ;) ;D ;D ;D he's from up here with the east anglian crew !!
We are in Cornwall definately the south west! We have recently started an allotment site on our smallholding, we now have 50 fabulous allotmenteers on their plots and room for a few more! Welcome to A4A Smudgers, and happy gardening.
Mine is at the Birchen Grove allotments in NW London. It's inside the Welsh Harp Nature Reserve and as you can imagine - glorious.
Anyone looking in from the outside would think we all suffered from some weird disease - or were practising some even weirder religion. Before any cutting into a grassy area we all hop about stamping for about 5 min's to give the frogs, toads and newts fair warning to escape! It's one of the reasons I cut the grass by hand - I have an ongoing nightmare of cutting one of them in half!
I've seen a Sparrow Hawk, Woodpecker's and Parrot's flying about here and it's made all the stranger because we are in the heart of NW London but the traffic is a distant hum and as long as I'm there., I can pretend that ugly old London doesn't exist.
It's my little piece of heaven. The only drawback is 1) I'm not allowed to take my dogs with me and 2) we have a really bad theft problem and unfortunately, I seem to suffer more than most. I thought I was imagining it but I'm not. Last year, someone stole all my Butternut Squash. Every one. The year before, it was all the Sweetcorn and the Broccoli.
All the idiot who runs the site says is that "it's the squirrels". Really? They must be amazing animals, because they wear boots and use very sharp knives to remove the goods!
Here is a few shots of our Allotment in sunny Cornwall!!

Hi all, just got my allotment its in gloucester, saintbridge site ;D
Hanham in sunny bristol here!!
Nobbs xx
Not ever properly introduced myself, but back garden in Bath, next door recently passed away, so I will be growing veggies for his widow next year, each house is built on 1/3rd acre, and approx 1/3rd of the land is veggies, so that's ............ummmm.........1/3rd of 2/3rds of an acre........I think.
Hang on......I can do this with a common denominator...........so 2/3rds is .666666, and a third of .666666 is about .222222, so about a quarter of an acre; allowing for extra greenhouse room around the houses.

"is that nxt to horfield prison? " Why yes, absolutely. St Agnes field - you can hear the inmates when they're on exercise, mostly young lads by the sound of them - language can be fruity.
Hoping to get something from Saintbridge (Gloucester) soon....

Hi Steve Welcome to A4A. Have you been on the allotment waiting list for a long time?
Hi Digeroo! Only been on the list about 3 weeks! I've asked the council to keep back to me with waiting list numbers/times. Had a look around the site on Sunday - there seemed to be a few neglected plots there so I hope the waiting list won't be long.
I do hope you are lucky. Sometimes people sit on plots and it seems to take quite sometime before they are released.
