Post by: Sparkly on July 23, 2007, 15:15:04
Can you plant swedes in pots for transplanting? Standard pots or even peat or newspaper pots if the roots don't like disturbance? Also as they are part of the brassica group do they like lime?

thanks!

Yes you can start them off in modules quite succesfully.  I don't know about the lime thing, but they are brassicas.  :D

I successfully transfered from a pot and they have grown well. Not sure how long you leave the swede to grow to as they are tennis balls at the mo.

Yes, I tried sowing direct earlier in the season and did not have much luck; hence trying the modules. I planted my seeds about 3 days ago and I already have a better germination rate than sowing direct so things may be looking up!
