Title: Words for a wonderful teacher?
Post by: gerbera on July 13, 2007, 20:59:57
My son has benefited from a fantastic introduction to education, due, in the most part, to a wonderful, compassionate and caring teacher (and teaching assistant).

A collection has been organised amongst the parents, as way of showing our appreciation, but I would like to add some words/poem etc.

I have written quite a few lines which put forward some of my (and other parents) feelings....I just wondered if any of you could offer any other ideas?

The young woman in question sometimes, I feel, doesn't grasp just how wonderful and influential she is, but shows a level of care, compassion and commitment which surpasses any expectation. But absolutely every parent whose children have been placed in her care makes a point of saying just how wonderful she is as a reception teacher.

I'm just hunting around for the best words to express how we all feel..... ???

Dont know if these are any good?

Now that I am leaving
I can tell you how I feel;
My heartfelt appreciation
Is deeply felt and real.

You're a really great teacher
That's what we all say
And as a Thank You for all your help
I'm giving you an A

On second thoughts that's not enough
For helping all of us.
So from me you get this THANK YOU,
As well as this A PLUS

No, that's  not enough either
For the teacher that you are
You get this Thank You, an A+
As well as this GOLD STAR

With a special gift for learning
And with a heart that deeply cares,
You add a lot of love
To everything you share,
And even though you mean a lot,
You'll never know how much,
For you helped to change the world
Through every life you touched.

You sparked the creativity
In the students whom you taught,
And helped them strive for goals
That could not be bought,
You are such a special teacher
That no words can truly tell
However much you're valued
For the work you do so well.

Maybe just adapt according to your circumstances????

Found them on the net for you.

I think that's a great poem, Shelle.   :)

And Creckless, how about nominating this teacher for a Teaching Award?

Thas Jeannine for your kind words....we all think so much of her....and next year I will be joining her team with the new intake (all the little 4 year olds!). It will be a fantastic and fruitful experience as I'm currently completing my degree so I can undertake teacher training the year after.

Shelle... I love your poem....but wll be passing it on to the year 6 kids who I work with (lower ability top-juniors). They have been very much inspired by their teacher this year, who has transformed a generally low-achieving year group  into articulate and confident young adults who readily provide moral and emotional support to each other; a quality which is rarely found amongst chldren of this age-group....but which will provide welcome support for their transition to the local high school in September. The year six group have trully blossomed in the past term....and they are looking for a way to express their feelings to their teacher.

Creckless, I think those words  sent to the head would be great, it would go in her file and the head would share it, put it on recordXX
