hi there,
was wondering what the runner bean situation is with you peeps have you started eating yours yet.
here is a picture of our runner beans (http://lottieblogs.co.uk/july2.aspx)
whats your eating them yet, starting to flower, or finished already
plenty of flowres but no beans yet
About 8 beans...2"long :)
Flowers but have not reached the top of pole yet!!
Had one meals worth from early ones started by our daughter. The main ones on the allotment are sown late because I don't want a huge harvest whilst we are away. Also, we want salad now and runner beans in the autumn, so I will sow a few more next week and then we can pick runners right into winter. Those that are running have flowers from the bottom to the tops and there are already small beans. I think they are enjoying the rain and cooler weather.
It's beans for supper every night now. Will probably have to start giving them away after next week. The super runner beans are compensating for the absolutely pathetic onions.
Expecting the Pea 'Alderman' to be cropping after this weekend.
Had two good picks so far, going to pick more tomorrow (plenty growing, ready to pick) to go with potatoes, marrow all from the lottie, and roast beef ( not from the lottie) for the evening meal. can not wait. :P
I brought 1Kg of runner beans with me to Nice on Wednesday 11th July. My late father always said that 1st July was the target date and in May it looked an easy one. The rain in June literally put a damper on things and by the 1st July I had only 2 beans.

3rd picking today, we just pick enough for a meal ;D
Ate first pickings of Cherokee Trail of Tears for supper tonight. Lovely - what a difference to the same beans frozen!

I've been picking for over a month, they were started in the greenhouse and put out early so they had a good head start.
3 big bags in the freezer and gave the first bag away today - lucky me !!

We were late in sowing ours (quelle surprise ::) ) but had red flowers all the way up ours last weekend! Haven't made it up there yet this weekend, but looking forward to seeing their progress!

Mine are pathetic. They got caught by a frost in early June, and are only halfway up the canes, the resown ones aren't even that high! :'(
to the top of the canes and lots of flowers - no beans yet...
Quotecaught by a frost in early June
Blimey. I was cross when we had a frost in January. This is how mine look now in spite of being half shredded by the storm in May.

That's my van hiding behind the jerusalems at the rear, Alderman peas on the wigwam to the left with more pots of peas to be planted in the centre tomorrow. Oca on the right border and two rows of sweet potatoes in the foreground.
Mine are like yours Deb P. ??? ;D ;D ;D

Courgettes and french beans fighting for space !! we can't give them away!!!!!
i hope those of you who have suffered are getting it back under controll now. this years been utter madness.
we got done by the winds in may.
After a VERY slow start, ours started to produce a week ago. The plants are mostly only half way up the canes, but covered in flowers, and I suspect that we'll get a big harvest later on.
It's funny - last year we had virtually no beans worth eating. They went tough and stringy in spite of our best efforts at watering them. This year with all the rain, they're tender and delicious.
Even the tough stringy ones are usefull - I took mine out of the pods and just kept the beans, some for seed but most went in the freezer and into stews. Yummy.
