Title: Train insanity.
Post by: emmy1978 on July 13, 2007, 13:48:10
My mum is having my kids for a week in August (first break in 8 years yay!!) so I go onto web to book tickets to take them up. This is mad. 1 adult and 2 kids, one way ( website no facility to book return only for me so have to book single back) Bournemouth to Preston: We start at £154, by not travelling at the weekend we get it down to £117, by purchasing a family railcard for £20 it comes down to £80. BUT. If I go from Bournemouth to Birmingham New Street and then on to Preston it comes to £46 (with railcard). Guess what? It's the same train.  ;D ;D ;D

Yep, Mrs Si did Brum to Liverpool: returns about £100+, two singles: £16 for both.

Although when I had to go down to That London at short notice the cheapest train I could find was £40, so I looked at Nat Express coaches: took a bit longer but for £2 (yep that's two) return I wasn't going to complain.

Try the mega bus/train site. My daughter uses it all the time. London to southampton £1.00.

You are better off going into the train station and talking to someone there. The best I could get on line for a trip from Bristol to London was £75 for 1 adult and 1 child on a family railcard. Went to the station and got the whole lot for £26!
