Well, I went for my selfish day out to Hyde Hall and it was lovely. The gardens opened at 10am and it cost me a fiver to get in as I am not an RHS member anymore. The gardens are lovely with several large ponds and lots to see. The roses were just going over but the clematis were taking their place. Masses of colour in the herbacious beds, so I came home and hacked down some shrubs to make way for more colour! Had a lovely cupafroffeechino in the tea room and watched all the ladies that lunch nattering about this and that. The dry garden is fab, a real inspiration. The plant centre had lots of plants, but they were all very expensive, and I can get them at trade price now so saved my pennies to spend there. The bonus is Hyde Hall is 5 minutes from my front door! The old man has mentioned that I could have RHS membership for my birthday giving me a good excuse to go more. Got home around 2pm aching well. I will probably suffer for it tomorrow, but it was lovely and I did have a lovely day.

I envy you your lovely day EJ. I must make the effort to go myself. I remember the beautiful roses and clematis along the ropes between the posts. I had thought I might try that here on a much smaller scale but I've run out of room!

I was an RHS member Carol, but when things were tight, I let it lapse. Hyde Hall is in Rettendon, Chelmsford, just 5 minutes from my front door!

Hi EJ, glad you enjoyed your trip. I went to Hyde Hall two years ago, by accident - was trying to get to Beth Chatto's garden, but the A12 was chockerblock so ended up at HH instead - certainly didn't regret it!

We went in May - it rained, but we still had a lovely day. Have you been to the nursery/garden centre nearby EJ? The plants there are really good and good value as well. My mother bought a superb pot grown Christmas tree there last year and it looks so healthy.
Yes, BHN pot plants I think it is called. I look after a garden opposite so a visit at lunch time is a necessity! They do have lots of lovely lovely plants, and yes, incredibly good value. I can't spend any cash on plants at the moment, saving for our hols, but when we return, oh boy do I have plans! ;D
Next time I go I shall look out for 'the garden opposite'!!!!
