Most of the lovely toms in my greenhouse have got blight. :'(
???Should I throw all of the plants out or just the blighted ones?
??? What do I need to do to rid the greenhouse of blight so that I am not likely to get it again?
???Is it worth sowing a few quick growing tom seeds indoors in the hope of some toms in the autumn?
Thanks in anticipation....
Flossie,
I'd get rid of all the ones suffering and use any green ones that are ok for chutney and keep your fingers crossed for the remainder. I saw some tomato plants for sale today at a farmers market so may be worth a look to try and get some that are already on the go. I've got mildew in the green house, and I've got all the ventilation I can. Anyone got any ideas??? :( :( :(
Thanks S

Do you want a recipe for fried green tomatoes, I am not being funny ,I am serious, they are very good. I feel so bad for you, now I think that just might break my spirit.Good Luck with what are left. Personally I would have a go with new ones, pick ones with a very short growing time, there are quite a few.Sungold is a good choice, it is prolific, fantastic taste and it is very early. Tumbler is equally early, we do a couple late and as they grow in hanging baskets we bring them in when it gets cold at the back end and finish the plants in the house,Taate is poor though but still better than store bought anything.XX Jeannine
I have had good results using half a soluble asprin (aspro clear) in 4Litres of clean water as a
fungicide and against Blight. not strictly organic I guess but might solve a few headaches.
I changed all my earth in the tomatoe house during the winter, this on the advise of a friend. Up until now I have no sign of blight.
I took the trouble of doing the same thing with the open bed I planned for tomatoes - everything OK:
