HELP SAVE OUR ALLOTMENT SITE - SIGN OUR ONLINE PETITION
We have been campaigning for many months to get a planned Housing Development stopped on our Allotment Site in Guildford.
Part of that campaign is to petition the Prime Minister - please do help support us by signing our on-line petition. The petition says:
"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to insist that Guildford Borough Council preserves the Aldershot Road Allotment Site (Westborough, Guildford ) as Allotments and Open Space.
We call for (1) the complete removal of the threat of Housing Development on this nature-rich Greenfield site and valuable community asset and (2) that the Council's Housing Programme be limited to development on the abundant Brownfield sites in the Borough"
The Web address is: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/allotmentsgfd
Enter the address in your Browser Message Bar and & hit “Go†or “enterâ€. You will be straight into the Petition. You then enter your name, home & e-mail addresses and the site sends you an e-mail back to verify your e-mail address. Click on the link in this e-mail and you'll have signed the petition. Only your name is shown on the petition â€" so no danger of ID theft or other on-line nasties.
It's a lot easier than it sounds and takes a few seconds.
Please ask everyone you can think of to sign - they don't have to be Guildford locals or allotment buffs - friends, family, work colleagues etc are all welcome.
Any problems, call me on 01483 832618 evenings/weekends.
We need several hundred signatures so please do support us on this.
Thanks for your support

David, I think that a lot of allotments have been classed as brownfield sites, seeing as they have been worked on but best of luck. The MP for Durham North, Kevan Jones, tried to do this and John Prescott put a stop to it so all 3 sites where I live were saved. Not sure what will happen now that he's been shunted to Strasbourg tho' :-[
Done my bit too - I hope we don't need to ask for this type of help any time soon :-\
Good Luck!
Done - good luck :)

Done and Good Luck.
Signed, hope you get all the signatures you need.... ;D
Sorry, just spotted. Signed up and thinking - aren't there a lot of these petitions? You'd think the government would have got the message by now.
What did they think would happen when they built loads of flats with no gardens or outdoor space? That's why I got my plot - I would have been quite happy to grow veg in the garden. ::) >:(
Done
Good Luck

Done
Good luck. I will spread this (along with my new two tons of horse nuts) around my allotment site.

done.
signed another similar petition a little while ago and kept the official Downing Street response, in case it ever came in handy. here it is:
EDIT: deleted as asbean linked to it here:
http://www.number-10.gov.uk/output/Page12015.asp
plus as previously mentiond in the thread above it appears to be a bog standard regurgitation of current legislation. oh well ::)
Done. Good luck. ;)
Bog standard repetition is all you ever seem to get out of these petitions. But that's governments for you, it's all you'll get from writing to a minister. If you want a helpful response, the only way to go is your local MP.
done all the best
debs ;D
Signed.
Sorry to double post (why no edit button?) (found it now, sorry)
This petition has been put on The Official Nik Kershaw Chat Forum, hope it helps.

Done, Good luck, a section of our allotment has been threatened with development but not 'officially' so we're up in the air uncertain of what will happen.
The same thing is happening in redbridge, All allotments in area are up for sale, four have more or less been sold. They are New North Road, Vicarage Lane South, TullwellAvenue, and Goodmyes Lane, The reason for the sale to make £25 000 000
All done. Our site contract was renewed last year for 10 years only. We could end up going down this road in 9 years time ourselves.
Done it for you all.
Have you noticed, here and on other lottie sites, how many sites are under threat?
Without getting too political, its down to Government policies and the desire for local authorities especially to maximise income and prevent themselves being further bullied by the big man in Whitehall.
Isn't it about time there was a countrywide survey and then a plan of action formulated to protest more widely against the devestation?
We may 'only' be the little people in life's grand design, but we have as many rights as the big boys!! >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
They want land for building, we have land, and neither councils nor Brown give a toss for us.
Would it beyond the "National" to organise a "National" response? At least widely publicise how many sites are under threat... general perception around here is that Lotties are having a renaissance...
:-\
Signed,
sorry to be the bearer of bad news, After many battles and High Court judgments we have finally lost our beloved allotments in Eastleigh.
This decision will now pave the way for future development of existing plot holders on sites through-out the country.
At least we held them up for five Years.
Extract from letter received today from borough council,,
I refer to your plot at the above allotment site.
I have been contacted by Barrett Homes who are interestd in clearing plots in the next few weeks.
As your plot is included in the above, Barrett's would like you to leave Monks Way by 24th August 2007. In exchange they will offer you £500 to leave and move any sheds or trees ( that can be moved). You will also receive your additional £100 for every 5 rods from the council.
Quite a sweetener eh ? :( :( :(
Good luck with your campaign.
Terry
We too are still under threat - heard nothing from the landowner or the agent, council seems to be on our side but agent is still refusing us access to the deeds of the land. We do have 2 lawyers ready and waiting to fight our battle and a fighting fund set up to pay for it... but together with the bad weather and the not knowing alot of us are losing heart.
Good luck and i hope you don't lose them.
Don't the last 2 posts show the increasing nature of the threat - the 'bribes' say it all to me!!
Is there any lottie-holder out there who has the legal expertise to advise on the situation? According to Govt figures, there are over 330,000 plotholders - thats enough to make a big noise anywhere.
I. for one, am prepared to put in a bit of spadework (sorry about the sad connection!) but we shouldn't just sit aside and let these things happen without supporting the areas in danger?
If it isn't you just yet, when will it be?
done! good luck
Two more signatures from geoff and me.
Hope this helps :)
