Title: Etiquette
Post by: cazy on July 05, 2007, 23:44:50
Have just been informed by my son that it is 'bad  manners' to do two consecutive posts.  I'm sure I've done it a couple of times in the past (over enthusiastic) but promice never to do it again. :-[

Is there anything else a complete novice should know about web site etiquette.  My brain hurts.

How about DON'T SHOUT!

Typing in all capitals is shouting - I even read posts with a shouting voice if they're all uppercase!

There's plenty more  ::)

I think that on a site like this, so long as you are not grossly offensive (aka obscene) anything goes.  I certainly wouldn't take offence at your posting two consecutive posts.  We can all think of a PS after we have originally posted!!

I'm sure it is intended (and I certinly find it so) a fun site to exchange knowledge of gardening.

Everything can get a littel 'PC gone mad' these days!!

Etiquette? A few weeks ago when my son took a group of us out for a meal my lovely Grandson (21next week) was struggling with the chicken on his plate. I said "Pick it up with your fingers and enjoy" So my answer is as long as you are not upsetting people just be yourself!!

Lorna!! I tell my girls that with their lamb chops!! Watching them fiddling around with knife and fork is just painful.  ;D
I am guilty of 2 posts as I am waffly and forgetful.  ::)
Don't think i have ever seen offensive posts on here. I think JRP's post on finger chopping came close and then when he brought up Madeleine McCann to carry on that point it was possibly the most offensive (using others suffering to make a point) but Jeannine rapped his knuckles for him so it was sorted fairly nicely!
;D

This is well known, but I also find it hard to read posts that are all in lower case.  And yet this is rarely criticised.  It is so much clearer when people start their sentences with a capital letter.

I think posts are easier to read when they are more spread out too rather than long paragraphs.

Like this.
