Title: I have an aubergine
Post by: dandelion on July 01, 2007, 20:34:40
The aubergines on my plot (some in a low polytunnel, some grown without protection) appear to be shrinking, rather than growing.  But I also put 1 plant in my front garden and look what it has produced  :):

The variety is 'Diamond' (from Real Seeds); apparently it comes from the Ukraine and tolerates lower temparatures than other aubergines.I'm really surprised myself. After planting my aubs out on the lottie I had one  left so planted it in the front garden. It's growing without any protection, but our front garden is south facing and a bit more sheltered than the allotment. I will go and check the low polytunnel tomorrow to see how the aubergines are doing there.

Very impressive dandilion, I've got one growing in the greenhouse which seems to be 3 aubies fused together.  Only little at the moment but I shall take a pic when it gets a bit bigger.

My little white ones in the greenhouse are only 1 inch in diameter.   That one you've got is quite something for this time of year.  Eat it quick whilst it's shiny and before the slugs get it.

I have three Diamond and two Fabina plants, but they are only just thinking about setting buds, let alone flowers or fruit. Well done you, dandelion! They were sown way back in January, but like most things this year, they are soooooo slow.

Wow, congrats, that looks gorgeous!

My aubs haven't even flowered or budded.  :P Now their leaves are full of little holes and I can't figure out what is eating them.

Wow, I'm jealous! How are you going to cook it?

Two of my aubergines have a bud forming at last. Hope I can harvest beautiful fruits like yours! :)

I am going to wait a day or 2 until I get some baby courgettes ready and then I'll ask my OH to stuff them all with rice  :) the Egyptian way.

That sounds delicious! I've never had stuffed aubergine. I might try making some myself but with bought-in aubergines :D
