Title: Lifting New Potatoes
Post by: Chantenay on July 01, 2007, 18:23:05
I normally lift first earlies as needed, but I am finding quite a few are now waterlogged and I am thinking of lifting the lot.
Predictions please - how long will they keep their flavour if I keep them all to myself.
Or do you think I should share them out with our neighbours for immediate consumption???
This is not the end of the world, as my second early Kestrels seem to be in a less waterlogged area, and they will be ready soon.

Get them out, we tried our water logged ones and they had all turned to mush, rescue them quick, XX Jeannine

Ditto - nothing (except anaerobic bacteria) can grow in stagnant water. And they last much longer than everyone says... get 'em out, eat 'em up.

When you get them out put them in a paper sack so as no light can get at them.

Or bury them in dry peat/compost you can always use it again after you have used the potatoes

They will keep OK - make sure you let them dry out in the sun (remember that yellow thingy) or in the garage / shed before putting them in bags.

Thanks people - that makes sense. I have paper sacks, but where do I find "Sun"? Will they have one in Poundland?
