Started mine early in a heated greenhouse in January, I have some inside and some out. They have fruits on them but I don't know when I should pick them - any suggestions welcome.......
For making salsa, sauces and other dips,harvest green when the blossom end is just starting to lighten up,simmer for 5-10 minutes in a little water, then use in your sauce etc.
For making into pies or preserves pick when the fruit fills the husk and the husks are turning brown.
For fresh eating the fruit is at it's sweetest when it turn yellow and the husk splits, they often fall to the ground at this point.

Seems to me that the different varieties of tomatillo have differing colours when ripe, so the way I tell they're ripe is to touch them too, they tend to be quite sticky when they're ready. Found this worked with the purple variety anyway.
To be honest, I wouldn't expect them to be ripe just yet, think it's around late August.
edited to say, I took a picture of ripe ones last year on 18th August.
I have grown Tomatillos for the first time this year, they are very healthy & strong, am I suppose to take the side shoots out like tomatoes, they are all outside
