Seems to be hitting everyone, though obviously some worse than others. Can anyone cheer us up and tell us they have what we are supposed to have in June?
Well, that got a lot of replies, didn't it?
Guess we've all got the same weather........
I showed a new plot-holder round this morning. Tipping it down with rain. I hope it bodes well that the rain - to say nothing of the sight of 10 poles of assorted weed - did nothing to dampen his hearty spirit! (I had to strip off when I got home & dump everything in the washing machine.)
Hey, ho - off to the Hampton Court Flower Show on Tuesday!
And we've had nothing compared to a lot of you.....................
I guess if anyone has got a dry day they'll be out making the most of it anyway, I know I would be! It hasn't stopped here all day.
I was lucky enough to get an hour in the garden before I got rained off (again). In that time I managed to tie in the raspberries, cat mint and fuchsias (which have all gone mad), do some dead-heading and shift a few pots around. Lilies and Fuchsias are in prolific bud but few have dared to open yet. :(

we decided, as I've been out of action and ray's been babysitting me..we'd go anyway and sod the weather..after all, we won't rust and at least we still have somewhere to go, unlike marestail and jeannine and so many other unlucky folk
so, wet inside our waterproofs, 2 hours later, sore as hell...but, we got all the (well, ray dug 'em up) garlic up, planted the new chinese leaves, picked some beetroot, what looks like the last of the strawberries, lost lots of tay and raspberries...but that's it for a few days now, i'm knackered ;D
And how is your garlic? I was thinking of harvesting mine but after all the rain I wondered whether to leave it another week or two.
G x
Leave the garlic until the soil around it has dried off a bit.
funnily enough, georgie, the first lot weren't very big but this lot, 10days later, are much bigger, don't know if it's leavng them or maybe the soil is different
anyway, we've now got garlic, spuds and onions stored ;D
well, as long as we can dry the garlic off ;D
oh, i forgot, it had very bad rust as well, and the bed was sopping wet :)
Heres something for those who dont have any of the wet stuff ;D

Like Georgie I took advantage of the break in the rain and had 2 hours over the lottie, but its caned it down ever since, my mates having a barbie tonight :o to I guess all the boys will be in the games room playing pool and bar football. ;D ;D ;D mend you the women will have to take turns bringing us the stellas down the bottom of the garden. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
we have rain here all day and its hot!!
Raining all day here in Sutton Coldfield. Tony has had to drain some water off the pool. He is usually having to fill it up at this time of year.
Raining pretty well non-stop here in Winchester. Whiled away the afternoon playing that stupid game - got a score of 5,188,500 at level 196 until the phone stopped the game!
we bought a hand pump from ebay, we've been using it to pump out the water from the end of the poly, there've been mozzies breeding in there..anyway, we gave in today and covered the brick path with wood chips to soak it up for now, we were having to put a drawbridge over it !! ??? ;D

Thanks for confirming my gut instinct. ;D

Personally,if my garlic was ready to harvest i would not risk leaving in this sodden soil a moment longer!
Ah but mine are in pots in a sheltered position, almost rain shadow. I stopped watering them last weekend because the foliage was beginning to yellow. If they were in sodden soil I'd harvest them too.
G x
HI manicscousers
Where are you pumping the water to?
Cambourne7
Woke up to a sunnny day which kept dry but getting steadily dull until 2.30 when we had a fine drizzle. Its been dry since 5 and the sun shone an hour ago. Bet we get the heavy stuff tomorrow.
So much for 'flaming June', What's going to happen in flaming July?
hiya, cambourne, we've been pumping it into 6 pint milk bottles and watering cans, then using it in the poly bottles, it's run off from the rotted manure we put in the beds so's good stuff
it's like instant diluted feed but there's just so much you can use ;D
Nice :-)
Pity about the mozzies though.
well, we're getting some nice, big, fat spiders in there ;D
and, at least they're not the ones you can get malaria from :o

You sure???
don't think malaria mozzies can survive at our recent temperatures ;D
mind you, maybe the spiders are suffering from malaria ;D
Yesterday it rained most of the day. We went over to Ludlow (Shropshire) to see the open air Shakespeare in the castle grounds. Amazingly the rain abated just before the start and there was only a few bits of light drizzle during the performance :D
A very good show - would recommend it to anyone! Only down side was that Mrs Si got annoyed when I tried to tour the gardening shops of Ludlow, perhaps not the best thing to try during her birthday treat :-[
:)rained all yesterday and last night ,
torrential rain and thunder today, now very windy and sunny spells
totally fed up / shades x
I think its flaming eck july. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Ssshh, don't anybody say a loud word, ssshh,it has stopped raining in Hull , the sun is shining and the roads I can see from my window are dry,Ssshh
XX Jeannine
:o same here Jeannine !!!!!!!!!!!
I forgot what it was like dry under foot ;D ;D
OMG the sun is shining ;D ;D ;D
mind you, there are still lots of dishy firemen about............just something about a man in uniform eh! ;D ;)
Oops, raining in Hull againXX
monsoon rain showers and thunder in Edinburgh
we had loads of rain yeasterday in fact over an inch, woke up this morning and no rain. Everythings dry ish. So made a run for the allotment and decided to pull some spuds, and a couple of onions.
There was some more tomatos ripe so harvested them and loads of redcurrants so took them as well.
Came home with my harvest and decided that i would give the front garden a quick trim since it was vandalised i had left it to recover and the rose has run rampant. I decided that the rain would hold off long enough for me to plant some of the new plants i had in the back garden. So i started planting a privet hedge around the garden, heather and some hebies. The soil is so wet that when i dug a hold you could see the water at the bottom ( dont you just love clay ). So hopefully it will rain later and the hedging will establish. Before the vandles get it.
Sitting here in my nighty now as i am cold and tired hubbie is cooking dinner (Roast beef, yorkshire pud, onion gravy, parsnips, beetroot, carrots) . Did not realise that i had been out there 2 hours. But still i got it finished.
I hope people managed to get something done today.

Blue skies and sunshine this afternoon in Essex ;D However, we do have rain forecast everyday until Thursday! >:(
The long-range forecast predicts a summer with numerous depressions coming in from the Atlantic for the next couple of months with regular heavy showers.
I don't know if this is accurate but it ceryainly gives some food for thought.
Jack
Looks like we're all going do be a bit depressed for the next couple of months then.
It's getting me down, I know that, usually live outside in the summer. :(
Raised beds must be the order of the day. Beef-up the rainwater collection for when it is dry and sunny (dry and sunny? How we laughed!)
Jack
The monsoon continues...
HI
Just got back from last session with therapist, and its rained all the way there and back!! Thankfully i did not get a ticket having parked on double yellows outside and i did not get 2 wet !!
Been out the back of the garden and its all flooded we have about an 1inch of standing water, the only good thing is that there are lots of dead slugs floating in it. The birds are do there having a feast. I have moved some of my pot plants into the bottom of my mini greenhouse so they dont get 2 wet and so far there all happy bunnys :-).
I have just finished my macdonnalds Lunch (aka breakfast) and i am going back to bed for a while with a good book.
I hope no one gets any more flooded then they have been.
Cambourne7
I've been weeding and the soil here is saturated with water
Had a break in the weather today but more is forecast tonight, i took advantage of it and got two rows of Rocket out i think it worked out about 50% the slugs had been at and the other half untouched. I got no little spuds all big chippers.
I only wish that some of you members that got flooded out lived close enough to share them.
yesterday we had a family day out (well 2thirds as wild childs in la la land) at stourhead in wiltshire and managed to avoid any heavy rain! (few spits and spots) we even managed a picnic! on the way back through bath it tipped down
it,s funny every trip we have been on with my s-i-l lately has turned out fine ish
i am thinking of hiring him out (new idea for e-bay?)
marg
Blue sky now ;D
Yesterday afternoon and evening dry and warm with sme sunny 8) spells, I even popped out for a few ciders, today heavy showers most of the day :'( but hang on the suns out 8) will it last. ??? :-\ ;D ;D ;D
Bah humbug, gone cloudy
edit - its now raining
Nope! Rain most of the time here in Dorset. When its not raining its grey and cold. if it wasnt for the flowers in the garden you would be forgiven for thinking it was November!
Heartily sick of it, and so is most of the garden (that of it that hasnt been eaten by rain loving slugs and snails that is! >:().Battered and soggy just about sums it up. I could go on and on and have a good rant and moan about it, but i will not inflict that on you. i am sure you all feel the same way!
:) torrential rain and thunder storms today fed up /shades x
Torrential rain here for the last half hour - I hope that the rain is not like this in all the areas affected by flooding.
it's been heavy showers on and off all day today, still, we had to get the veggies in for tea, parsnips, carrots, cabbage, also, the soft fruit doesn't stop growing even if it rains ;D
hope all you people are ok in the wetter areas :)
Had a freeky morning.
Got up and came downstairs for breakfast.
Sat down and looked out window blue sky a little windy but idea lotty weather rubbing hands together in glee i walked back into the kitchen to put the kettle on to fill up my flask to go to the lotty with me. Opened curtains and was shocked to see the sky is black :'(
Within 5 min the heavens have opened and the rain is falling like stair rods!!
It rained for 2 hours!! Its lighen up now but its still raining !
I am never going to see my lotty again :-\
Cambourne7
Not too bad today.
It is absolutely thrashing down at the moment, I think one of our gutters must be a bit blocked 'coz it is overflowing the end and pouring down like a fully open tap!! So much for me going and digging up some potatoes for tea..... :-\
I got a call-out last night for the same reason. Overspill on the guttering. With all this rain the gutters fill up faster and dislodge moss and the like which flow toward to down-pipe and block the water exit. Lift the rubbish out and it'll be ok.
( Another £2.80p jobby)... :(
Suunny spells 8) rain :( sun 8) more rain :'( sunny spells thunder and lightening high winds rain :-\ sun aaaahhhhhhhhhh :P :P :P :P :P
Ah the boys used our new Kärcher to clean the gutters. Fair makes a difference when there is torrential rain.
Did a 'Karcher' on the roof of an extension last week. Boy, the muck that comes off is quite something. When ( :-\ ) the sun shines it's a heck of a difference.
( Got £2.80p) for that job... :(
Thunderstorms and big hailstones a couple of hours ago. Lovely clear evening now.
I made a run for the lotty to check on things 5 min there, 3 min on plot 10 min hiding in the car and 10 min trying to lock the site balancing an umbrella with the padlock.
But in the 5 min i was on the plot i managed to plant out 4 courgettes and one more pumpkin and pop some slug pellets down. As well as transplant the last of my mini sweetcorn and the last of my runner beans. Phew!
I knew i had to make a run for it when the lightning started to fly across the sky!
I'm going to try that trick tonight cambourne as snails got most of my fledgling squashes :'(. Will plant more stuff, maybe watercress? :D Rice is another good idea.
Last night went to the lottie to talk about the upcoming event at the allotment this weekend, wound up being just me and the supervisor (the others were frightened off because of the rain, lightweights! ;D), and the heavens opened up. Meeting over, run home. Yeesh!
I never thought I'd say this after the last couple of summers, but I am sooooooooo bored of rain!
It was dry but very threatening here this morning so I managed to get some things done. I did a slug/snail hunt it the mini greenhouse and disposed of five snails and two of those horrid tiny grey slugs. Watered the plants in there - radish, spring onions and spares of cues and basil - and checked on all the spring bulbs which are drying off in there. Then I harvested the garlic because I needed the pots: it's okay, but I've had bigger yields. Used the pots to plant out the beetroot and managed to get quite a few of the ornamental grasses grown from seed planted out too. Then the heavens opened. ::) How dare it rain on my week off? >:(
G x
Georgie,
Try this, lay a black sack on the shelves of your mini greenhouse so you have a flat surface
Sprinkle it with slug pellets then pop your plant trays and pots back into place.
:-)
It works as long as the foliage does not touch the greenhouse as this creates a safe bridge for them.
Cambourne7
ps - we had blue skys here and just as i was walking out the door the heavens opened :-(
yes but it saves you watering them in, georgie ;D
:) It got quite hot and the sun came out today :o :o :o
then we had yet another thunderstorm,
we've had at least one a day for the past fortnight/ shades x
Heavy rain here again in that evening time when we could get something done!
:'(
just come back from meal with girls :-) we had to hid in the pub afterwards because of the rain - so sad ;D
:)poor you cambourne ;D ;D
raining here yet again today / shades x
That big yellow thing was in the sky this morning - bunked off work (I'm s/e, so I'll have to send myself a warning letter ;D) and spent the day at the lottie. Got loads done, started raining about 4pm but I carried on til about 5.30pm - you should have seen the hair - a v. scary sight!!!
It's still raining..............
It is still raining in Hull,
Rain again this morning!!!!!
Is it possible to construct an ark from wooden pallets? ???
According to my garden log it has rained here for 36 days, so Biblically speaking only 4 more to go. Save the palletts!!XX Jeannine

It's been sunny and windy here as well.
Day 37 and still raining in Hull, only a little though so the countdown to the end may be near
Sunny spells, mainly cloud and very windy. Jeannine you and Gary start breaking up them pallets and start building the ark, and don't let the two slugs on. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
IT IS NOT RAINING IN HULL
Hope you have had sunshine Jeannine. Has been lovely here all day ( March Cambs)
Have only had a light shower in Durham, the rest of the day the sun was shining and it was lovely and warm :)
It's a little bit windy though, but I'd trade the rain for it any day!
