I dont know if this is the right place to put this new topic.I have heard on my plot something i never had heard before.An older plot holder told me that i have to store my fresh digged potatoes at least to weeks before eating them.He told me that some peoples stomach cant stand fresh digged potatoes.I had never problems in eating them fresh.What happened my family was enjoying some fresh digged early ones,and some hours later my wife was running to the toilet,she said to my that she had all the time,after eating the potatoes,a funny feeling in her stomach.A little bit like having a stomach flu.I wisely shut my mouth and told her not to wurry. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I always dig my early potatoes & eat them straight away with no ill effects whatsoever. Hope it was just a conicdence that your wife had a tummy upset - I've never heard that one shouldn't eat them fresh.
Funny has it may seem,there are many many people who cannot stomach fresh veg straight from the garden.
A chap took a plot next to me once and only had it for two seasons.He said his wife could not eat any of the veg he took home because it was "too rich"!
What else did she eat with the potatoes? ??? ??? ??? ??? Don't blame an innocent spud unless you are 100 percent it's at fault. Which is doubtful. ;)
I have just eaten the spuds from the lotty and all i can do is stop myself running... back to the lotty for more as there yummy!

I'm another one who can't get them from the plot to the pan to my belly quickly enough. However, the fibre rich new pots can lead to my better half becoming musical a little later.

To be honest, most of my home grown stuff makes him tootle. I reakon it is because with shop bought carrots for example, I peel them, home grown get a scrubbing and that is all. Skin and vitamins all left in.
From allotment to tum in about 25 minutes today. Topped a shepherds pie with them sliced. Yum yummy. All still alive and no-one is stuck on the loo!
yhe i dont think i could go back to shop bought spuds, i'm well and truly hooked on fresh ones.
I have a feeling that I once was told something about the way starches change in potatoes after harvesting, but I suspect that was from a chap who did research into animal feeds.
It's a very complex matter. Different varieties of potato have different starches in different proprtions, and some of these are indigestible. Although not to the same extent, it's a bit like the inulin problem with jerusalem artichokes. Some people can tolerate it, others :( sadly cannot.
And cooking methods have a big effect, too.
I've never had a problem with freshly harvested spuds myself, but I wouldn't rule out there being some truth in this story.
I think there are people who cant stand fresh veggies it is to healthy ;D ;D ;DThis story i know also from people who cant stand broad beans.
I know someone who ate no veg or fruit and believe that there is enough vitamins in the food she eats. which is ALL processed. Fav meal was bread rolls ( approx 12 small rolls ) with a 1/4 packet of butter a day.
Shes on a diet now and the weight is just falling off her kids are telling her what the veg are and how to cook them as she has never cooked them before.
We belive that the kids (6 and 4) are learning about these foods from school and tv. This has lead to spooky moments like a 4 year old telling his granny how to prepare and cook a globe artichoke!!
Assuring her that he had cooked them before.
Well I went to the lottie earlier and picked some more spuds and carrots, they are in the steamer as we speak, they will go down very nicely with my lamb chops, I nearly forgot theres a nice fresh red onion in there as well. :P :P :P ;D ;D ;D
The smell coming from them onions is pukka. :P :P ;D ;D ;D
B****r the wind just get em down yer. We are gonna have cabbage carrots and spuds just picked an hour ago with a nice meat pie. Just having a glass or two of white wine to combat the rich veg just in case it makes us bad. pmsl

the only reason i can think, that might possibly upet your stomach, is if you slightly underboil your new pots because you are too impatient/think they can do with shorter cooking - which they can to an extent but not by more than a few minutes.
