Title: Later cropping strawberries - which variety?
Post by: Tora on June 27, 2007, 15:27:40
I had a good crop of strawberries but the plants have stopped fruiting all at the same time! :(
Can somebody tell me which varieties are good for harvesting from late June onwards? I want to have a continuous supply of strawberries rather than a glut...
Thanks. :)

Hi Tora

I have MAE, FLORENCE AND FLAMENCO. These give fruits right through the summer months. Just as well as there are 5 of us! Delicious fruits from all 3. Have a look in the catalogues, this autumn, as they often have them grouped as special offers, other varieties are available.

Basically, what you need is an Early, Mid and Perpetual variety. Remove any flowers formed on the perpetual variety before June, and this will give fruits up to late summer.

Happy reading!

Agree with Baz.  We have Florence and Mara des Bois, which give a nice steady crop.

Thank you both! :) I'm going to plant some of those varieties this autumn. ;)
This is my first year of growing strawberries and I don't think I can go back to supermarket stuff anymore. ;D
