Title: £350 lighter
Post by: Mrs Ava on June 27, 2007, 12:44:36
Been to the dentist, had my new ceramic white crown fitted.  Good job mum lent me the cash to be paid back after the summer.  She didn't like the idea of me having the cheaper option of a black metal crown.  Thank goodness for mums!

OH the cost of dentists frightens me...actually the dentist frightens me.  Due to moving a fair bit over the past 3 years we arent registered with a dentists - on a waiting list though... but i couldnt afford to pay for treatment as i believe i need ALOT of it.  The last time i went to the dentist i ended up in hospital for over a week due to a blunder - and that was a private dentist too that i paid for an emergency treatment.  Urggh raises my bp thinking about it.

Glad your tooth is fixed though  ;D

Happy new ceramic white crown EJ!   The cost is totally scary. Not up to speed on dentistry...not ever needed any work (sorry!). Is a crown the bit that gets put over the tip of the tooth after they've filed it down?  If so,can't imagine what a black metal one would look like! I think your mum sounds like she was right to go for the white ceramic!

Oh and when they say 'white ones dont last as long' its rubbish... My longest lasting fillings have been porcelain and they look much better too.... oh how i wish i had your teeth heidi... mine have always just 'disolved' since i was little. Daughters are similar but sons are lovely.

BL**DY HELLS BELLS KEV!  Buy a cheap car for that!!

Yes Heldi, what happened, about 5 years ago I had awful toothache and the tooth had had it, so a spot of root canal and then a gold overlay sorted it out.  The gold overlay, so a slither of gold cemented to the top and sides of the tooth, came out everytime I ate a toffee.  I usually remembered, but this last time, I forgot eating Paines Poppets and out it came.  Went to the dentist and he said it was crazy me having to pay annually to have it cemented back on, it would be cheaper in the long run to have the full crown.  So, as the tooth was dead, I only had to be numbed a little just to cut back the gum, and the tooth was filed down to a gross stump.  Had lots of different measurements taken, and today a lovely ceramic was cemented in place, lots of pushing and shoving, and he did it standing rather than sitting as I couldn't lay back in the chair due to my surgery.  My teeth are in pretty good shape really, I do have some fillings, but unfortunately as a child, my family dentist in surrey drilled and filled all of mine and my sisters teeth as soon as they came through!  About 15 years ago I had all the black fillings replaced with whites as I saw a photo of me laughing and I hated all the black fillings, and I have only had to have one of those replaced in all that time, and I do go to the dentist every 6 months without fail.

I love the dentist!!

 :o  Kev !

Ooh EJ it sounds so uncomfortable going through all that.  Are you all sorted now? I hope so.  Have you been checking it out in the mirror lol?!

I've been very lucky.  I was pretty good as a kid with teeth brushing and wasn't a big sweetie eater. It must mainly  be good genes or something though because I know people who look after their teeth really well and still have problems.

I have a fear that my luck will run out and I will end up with huge problems ! If I ever feel a twinge or my gums feel a bit sore I think "This is it!"

Oh my... dentists.. the bane of my existence... if I have a dental appointment, I am almost always up the night before, worrying...  :P

I'm one of those with bad teeth/gums, no matter what I do...  cursed from birth, alas.

My mum is having one of those dental implants instead of dentures. Just hearing about the procedure makes my blood run cold!  :o
