Title: I've been asked by a friend what this is?
Post by: Hawkweed on June 26, 2007, 20:17:50
And I have no idea. I guess it's a wild flower/weed. Can you help?

I have always known it as Rupicanos, but I cannot find it under that name. The other one which springs to mind is Fumitory, but it is not under that one either. Will keep looking. We have it in the garden too! A memer of the Corydalis family at least, that is for sure!

Hurrah found it. It is Fumaria officinalis!

Thank you so much. Now do I go back to her as if I knew it or do I confess that I had help?  :) :)

I have it seeded in my front garden.  Is it a keeper Eric?

It`s not so much a matter of whether it`s a keeper EJ, but rather of whether you can ever get rid of it.  I got up 2 barowloads to mix with my grass cuttings last weekend, and I`ve no doubt there`ll be another 2 barrowloads in a few weeks time. In my garden it`s almost as bad as Himalayan Balsam.

I have read that the seeds can survive for 20 year in the soil. I have it all over my allotment but it is easy to remove when it does grow - and when I let it grow, I like it so guess I am stuck with it as I am sure some of the stuff I allow to flower will set seed - so for the next 20 years......

Aha, fair enough Kepouros, maybe I shall nip it out before the seed sets.  Funny you should say the seeds live for so long redclanger as it has appeared in a piece of garden that used to be weedy grass.  I have lifted the grass and put some small shrubs and herbs in, now this has appeared.  Obviously lurking in the depths, biding it's time.
